Thanks,
Here is one, it is of the most western part of the island and Cracken and I have given it a working title of Batavia. The map is as good as finished texture and landscape-wise. But it does need populating with objects, the building of towns and villages. Though I must say we've decided this should not be very extensive ... the emphasis is more on getting the terrain to do the job of immersing the player in location.
Of course, anyone feeling an urge to help build village templates or even a town or 2 is always welcome. Populating is the one part of map making that remains very time-intensive.

Here is a download link for a basic, flyable map should anyone wish to give it a try. Thee is a new static.ini for this as well, though I cannot remember exactly why. Probably larger than the first one included in the map.

That's gonna be a useful map for 1942 because not only the Dutch and the Japanese (Army & Navy) fought here but also RAF/RAAF and US; ABDA powers.

I think that as they stand the textures do a good job for the landscape, which is somewhat ironic as they were borrowed from the Zapolar map by mixx which is of the far north in Finland and the USSR. Nor are there any trees textures in use either, no RGB24 in the map at all.
We only did the western most part, about 1/4 of the island, because the place is so immensely huge. Even so it is in the large map size range. 5500 x 5100 pixels.
Of course, comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Great news, thanks! Does anyone remember Aces of the Pacific? Did it have a campaign in Java of P-40s vs. Ki-27s?
Whatever large island it was (Java?), I have the greatest memories of going up and down a particular long island chasing down Ki-27s.

It is not the first time I hear about this map... but where is it available ??? possible to have a link, please ???
I think we may have discovered a Il-2 Mod rule here
What ever location you can name, Agracier has already done a map for it.

This thread made me curious to take a new look at the map. If you make them and let them rest for a few weeks, you often get a better idea of what the weak points are ... so sometimes it's like seeing a map for the first time again ....
Anyway, some screenshots.

Looks nice
Karkatoa is on that map, isn't it? Dog fighting around an active volcano. There is a concept. LOL

Very nice map, indeed. I successfully installed it into Files/maps/ folder of my HSFX 4.1 install,
with new load.ini file,(which was necessary to use), an everything works well, including the mission saving.
There are, however, no airfields on that map. Or am I doing something wrong?

This particular version was a first basic map for sharing between me and Cracken - since I put up the link I've updated the actors file with airfields, names and one or two villages ... the link was not intended as a link for general access, but after the request for a Java map was made i thought why not ...
Here is a link to a newer actors. Backup old one first though. You never know.

I was also wondering what users think of having a very tropical location with no forest textures in use on the map. When making maps I add these last after getting the map to work and I was surprised how well the textures gave a tropical island look without forest textures ...
But I wonder if others think the same ... I have some thoughts about the higher mountains on the map, they look too rocky perhaps and maybe here some forest might be appropriate after all ...

Just tested airfields.
Ciraniang and Palas are OK,
Jiput seemed OK , but Fulmar turns to right on runway even with engine off,
Surade runway fractioned,
Batavia partially submerged in the river.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, the actors is simply my own working version and gets updated whenever I work on the map ... on the latest version of the mp, I think the fractured or unflattened runway has been taken care of and the rivers around Batavia city have been removed too ...
Anyway, thanks for the points and whenever a serious update has been done it will be worth the while to update the links as well.

Big_Yamato was working on a West Java map which included Sumatra as far as Palembang, but I have not heard from him for more than 18 months so I have no idea if he is still working on it (presumably not). However, he did send me an alpha version which included Kalidjati and Kemajoran aerodromes, and it looked very promising. I have started work on an East Java map as well as West Borneo and East Borneo maps, but progress has been minimal lately, unfortunately. Although the basic maps work, my GIMP/Photoshop skills are limited so I have to learn on the job, so to speak. See topic " Interest in NEI maps?" in this section. Also, I'm still gathering info to get them as period-accurate as possible.
Will definitely take a look at this one, though!
