il-2 works fine until I load 4.08-after I load 4.08 it starts up in russian,I get to menu page,itstays on menu page for about 7 sec then the whole game shuts off-english lag. fix does nothing-have stripped evrything ubi soft off-- I have tried to install game dozons of times ---have changed video drivers etc.---I am at my witts end ---havent been able to fly for 2 weeks-any help would be appriciated

Ditch it and get UltraPack 1.8 you wont regret it !!

Is this stock 4.07m from DVD? And after 4.08m official patch, it is in Russian, and CTD?
Make sure you have English (International) 4.08m patch.

Just curious... why are you using 4.08.. or were you testing ther install to patch to 4.09. The best way I have found tomod this sim is to :
1-Do a clean install. BEAR IN MIND THAT IF YOU HAVE A PREVIOUS VERSION WITH MODS I SUGGEST THAT YOU EITHER RENAME IT.. OR UNINSTALL IT AND MAKE SURE YOU DELETE THE FOLDER AS WELL SINCE EVEN UNINSTALLED THE SIM WILL LEAVE SOME FILES IN THERE.
2-Once you do that clean install of 4.07 patch that first to 4.08 then to 4.09. Then install the HFX 4.0. You will see in the folder several files and two executables.. all you have to do is hit the first exe... do not install the part 2 exe it will do that automatically.
3-Then install the HFX 4.1

My Dad (Snitchy) has bought IL-2 off of the IL-2 website. So he's bought the Digital Version that uploads 4.08m with it. When he loads up the game it turns out all to be in Russian Language.

Look in the conf.ini, and find this line:
[rts]
locale=
Make sure there is nothing after locale=
i.e. blank
See if that works.

I have takin off every ubi soft file etc-I have used dvd which gets me a clean 4.07,then when I put in 4.08 its in russian the game gets to the menu and shuts down--so I decided to download IL-2 from ubisoft wich IS a updated 4.08 version and it does the same thing-can ubisoft's version be corrupt also?!?!?!

Did you uninstall, or just delete the old game, before installing the new downloaded one?

You have a DVD, which is 4.07, and when you install that it works fine?
Then you apply the 4.08m official patch, and it's in Russian, and it crashes?
Yes, certainly sounds like something wrong with patch, or you have the wrong patch.
What is the exact name and size of the 4.08m patch you have?

Hmmm, I saw an old post (year ago) on IGN board, where someone had same problem.
In his case, he bought Russian version of game (worked fine), then installed English 4.08m patch on it, and it pooched the game.

Run IL2.exe in Windows XP compatability mode,, that JUST fixed it for me.
