Modding - csteimel47591 - 25.12.2009

Hey all,
I've been a big WWII fan all my life and had just discovered IL-2 a little over a year ago. It'll take over my life if I'm not careful, ha. About a month or so ago I stumbled on this site. I never new IL-2 was such a 'mod-able' game. Seems like its got loads of potential.

I was just wondering how you get into modding? more particular, aircraft creation? I'm currently a mechanical engineer but in my previous life I was a CAD designer. I've logged quite a few hours on SoldiWorks and Pro-Engineer. What software are people using to create these additional aircraft mods? what formats??
I've got a couple screens of a few things I modeled while I was screwin around between jobs but I can't seem figure out how to attach them.

Anyway, let me know. I spend more time creating maps than I do playin the game. I'd like to get in to modeling some stuff for IL-2.

Modders here mainly use Gmax or 3ds Max here. Getting into modding here is easy (just make a mod .) I' no modder, so its useless coming to me. Try asking some veteran modders for advice (Ranwers, Deutschmark, Csocso, VH-Rock, Philhl etc etc...). All I know about making new aircraft, is that it is extremely difficult.

If you've been creating maps then you might have also experienced a yearning to have the appropriate type of houses and buildings for the geographical area of the maps. While of course there are never enough aircraft in the game - that's a given - by the same token there are even less objects of the correct type for use in maps. There has always been a lack of the correct type of objects for certain parts of the world.

For instance, anyone making maps of Spain for SCW missions or maps of north Africa or the Middle East, it is obvious there are hardly any houses that fit the area. That's why for instance we have Alexandria populated with Slovakia/Russia/German houses and so on.

Why not take a shot at creating some new objects for the game as a first step? You'd be doing a great service for Il-2players.

Look around in this site so you dont acidentally model an aircraft already made by these people.

Check the other modding sites, too. It would be a drag to spend months on a project and have someone else beat you to the punch. You might see if you can get hookrd up with a team on a project.

Good luck. We can always use more modders in the community.
Thanks for addition.
