The RAF74 Historical Dogfight Server is live! - Bimmer - 02.01.2010
The members of RAF74, a squadron with over ten years of active participation in online combat flights sims, are proud to announce our latest endeavor: The RAF74 Historical Dogfight Server!
Using many of the new capabilities provided by the latest mods, we have created a diverse set of objective-driven maps that offer a combination of action and historical fidelity. Our missions reward coordination and team play that focuses on achieving the goals laid out for each map; we encourage players to utilize our public TeamSpeak server. Normal run-time for our maps is two hours, so there is plenty of opportunity to allow the action to develop. Moreover, a full set of AI flights is provided in every map, so there's always something going on!
Our missions take place over Slovakia, Thailand/Burma, El Alamein, Bessarabia, Italy, Midway, Finland, and Libya, with more in development. Each has been researched and developed to offer a fun, balanced scenario placed within the historical context. Where possible, we have tried to adhere closely to historical events as they happened; in other cases, we have made limited changes in order to offer players the best possible online flying experience.
So if you want to fly with the 3rd Squadron of the American Volunteer Group as they race to intercept Sallys bound for Rangoon on Christmas morning 1941, or join LLv24 in a ski-equipped Fokker D.XXI as they tangle with Soviet I-15s and I-16s over frozen Finnish lakes during the Winter War, or fly low across the dunes in a Desert Air Force Hurricane as the British attempt to halt Rommel's last desperate drive into Egypt, head over to Hyperlobby and look for

Sounds fun, I can't wait to take a crack at some Tempests and Typhoons.

I really want to join your server but I don't use HyperLobby.
So what IP address do you guys use??
- Bimmer - 05.01.2010
Sorry, but we're only running access to the server via HL at this point.

Glad to see folks are enjoying the server.
We've recently added two maps to the rotation. The first is RAF74_Drummer's Operation JUBILEE, covering the Dieppe Raid of August 1942. Ground attack, anti-shipping work, and dogfights over the Channel all in one.
The next depicts the "Little War" between Hungary and Slovakia in March 1938. A straight air superiority mission for both sides. Lots of biplane action over the gorgeous Slovakia map. A set of default skins for the Hungarian side to give proper markings is available here:

More on the way. Stay tuned!

RAF74, along with WingWalkers and II./JG1, wrapped up our Operation TORCH mini-campaign last night. This historically accurate mission depicting the battles over Casablanca between the U.S. Navy and the Vichy French air force in November of 1942 is now in regular rotation on the dogfight server. A pack of default skins, set to install in JSGME for your convenience, is also available here:
