There is no New York map....unless you want to make one!
And as far as I'm aware there is no king kong in game, oleg put him in the demo but took him out due to FM issues.
Good day

Folks have been looking for a US Northeast corridor map for some time. I don't think anyone wants to undertake the project because of how vast it would be even in the 1940's time period. Not to mention how long it would take to populate a map like that but you know what a frame rate hit it is to fly over Berlin. Imagine that scale of objects for a hundred of miles.

well you could make the city alittle smaller and just put the famous buildings etc in it, i would like to make it but i don't know how to build maps, and create buildings etc...
if someone could help me with making a map and buildings i could try and place them everywhere even if it would take me weeks

Welcome to mapmodding!
I suggest that you start by reading mapmaking tutorials and start to manipulate excisting maps before doing complitely new. Map making is fun once you learn the basics.
About New York: We do not have skyscrapers ATM, so somebody must make those objects and import them to game. That is quite difficult....
But it is possible!

Jokes aside, I think someone was going to attempt this...but I am talking a yar or more so ago so I have no idea on what happened. You could try a forum search for it.

Weeks? You must be kidding. Populating takes months if you want to do even a halfway decent job on maps with large and dense urban areas. Maybe you could do it in the span of weeks, but I doubt without going absolutely bonkers in the meantime ... ha ha.
And then add some extra months into the equation for making buildings from scratch. And on top of that there are so few members here who can create 3D objects to begin with, far less than can make maps.

just ended my search, i found a post but they never started building the map so that aint going to help,
and well i would love to try it myself but i don't know how to start,
i think there is a 3D model of new york in google earth, is it posible to use stuff from that??
(screens from google earth coming)

Google Earth has its own 3D models of buildings in NY and has its own kind of flight sim included. I don't know anymore the key combinations for it but you can fly with a jetplane or a propellor plane over New York or where ever you want to.
- jente - 06.01.2010
well if you could use the 3D models of google earth it would be verry nice, but would that be possible??
If only it was that easy... - Drew - 06.01.2010
Then only problems I see with importing 3D models from GoogleEarth into IL2, would be getting past all the copyright issues, finding and most likely buying the rights to their 3D "Source code files" so the AAA modelers could then import it into IL2. And on top of all of that bullcrap, the issue of poly count might be the last nail in the coffin.
IL2 modding community has done a fine job of producing quality 3d models/mods, and 100-1000 mods exist or are in construction I'm guessing.
However that is nothing compared to 10,000+ freeware/payware aircraft that were made for FS2004/FSX. But now you ask why can't we use all those fine 3D models from FS into IL2,
either the polys are too much, the source code is not for sale or download. And even IF they did import an FS addon (skyscrapers/scenery/planes/boats/cars) into IL2, it would require skinning, FM (If flyable/ai), and finally being put in the structure IL2 could handle/read.

And as for making such a map, i have not seen models of that size yet in Il-2. IMHO, such a map would not be worth the effort unless for a dedicated 'what-if' campaign where-by Britain loses the BoB and the Germans try to invade the USA.

well as it was just a question, i don't know that much about il2 so i was wondering about it, but i know enough know^^
just a to hard/big/impossible job to make xD

Not impossible if a team is willing to do it but if you are like me then you probably don't have the time nor the patience to learn how to make such a map
LOL

It would be a very big job, most especially for a first exercise in map making.
But if you have the urge to make maps, why not try out something simple at first? Desert areas and arid countries are always easier to do due to sparse habitation. They look nice too and have an attraction to one's romantic side perhaps, but the populating is easier by far.
And I've been asking this before, but I have a number of basic maps finished, textured and all, but still needing populating. If you'd like to try out populating, you or anyone else for that matter are free to give it a try.
Here are a few that you could choose from:
Formosa / Iraq / Bulgaria-Turkey / Spain - Galicia / Spain - Madrid-Jarama / Korea North / Korea Pusan Perimeter / Java West / Norway - Narvik / Palestine / Suez Canal /
