Do we really need so many new(and sometimes random)subjects? - Alex T. - 20.01.2010

I was looking at the list of planes available in our sim today, and together with the beta and WIPs it's quite a huge amount of stuff, but...
Do we really need em all? :???:
There are many many planes that are starting to show its age in our old sim (many 3d models date back to the original IL-2!), like the He111, IL-2 etc.
so why not following the intelligent path that people like JapanCat have taken, instead of coming out with subjects that yes, might be interesting or exotic, but have no purpose for the sake of our sim?
And please don't start with the "if u don't like it don't use it" or "why don't u do it yourself", mine is just a mere observation

Well, many people are doing what JapanCat is doing. But most people see as just extra work to fix up an old stock IL-2 plane. Most people would rather just make a different kind of plane all together and be done with it. Plus, when you modify a stock plane it has to be in it's own slot if it is modified severely. But I agree that we should see more moddified stock planes and a LOT LESS "what if" planes. Most of the Spits we have are not even serial production or just one or two were made.

well, with that being said i think we should get rid of the I185 versions all together.

I don't think that we should get rid of any planes......but I wish people would stop making them........we need more historic planes!

What do we have now? B-17, Lancaster WIP, more spits and Bf-109s, Blenheim, Hurrican, Seafire, gladiator....

Do I really need 13 P-38's???? nope

Do I need 100 versions of 109's and Spits? No.
Am I glad they are in the game? Hell yeah!

This is slighty pointless IMHO. We don't need the planes, because we don't need il-2. However, we want it because it's fun and we want the planes for diversity. Not everyone wants all the spits, but then again not everyone wants all the 109's so this way everyone wins.

u r missing my point guys, I don't say that I mind having new planes, but among all the new exciting stuff we're getting (LUV the Korea pack!) there's a whole lot of half finished or franken planes..
IMHO It's a real shame to see so many resources wasted, considering that there are so many things that need to be addressed.
As an example, what is the point in having a Neptune? I have nothing against who made it, but honestly with so many things that need to be fixed... I wish we had another pair of JapanCats, who are humble and above all quick and receptive (other than skilled of course!)
The I-185 was a milestone per se, because it was the first one who had an advanced 3d model (suspensions working properly, cockpit which implemented 3d renders etc..), but the sense of some other works are really obscure to me..

I think you have to have people who are willing to work on such planes. People might be happy to get the planes to a initial stage; but they may not feel like taking them further. If there's a team of people who are willing to do this, then your prayers may be answered Wink I do understand what you mean

How many times have you seen even three or four P-38 types used in a server??
Not often if ever.

- Plumps - 21.01.2010

Well you can not really debate what some like or not. And getting all under one hat is next to impossible.
Sure there are a lot of planes on my game I have never used and most likely will never use, and there are planes that are dearly missed,
like the mentioned British heavies, for night raids, or various types for the Pacific theatre.....then again others would rather drift of to modern aircraft or even Star Wars.....
It would be already a big step if one could stay at WWII maybe +- 15 years.
But then it is up to the people making the stuff. It is their time, so it is their call.
Also don

Server with historical missions use them all in different missions.

Whatever happened to the modder doing whatever they please? We all do this for a hobby and whilst many modders do take requests, like myself I rather make what I want to occupy my free time than have someone dictate to me what I want to do.

I personally don't like seeing lots of experiemental craft, but honestly only a handful have been released (yet to see a Luft '46 project reach completion). End of the day, up to the modder and how they want to spend their time and up to you if you want to download it.
