What is the buttons file? - J99Eingehirner - 21.01.2010
I searched for this subject but unfortunately, neither am I able to confine my search to actual topic TITLES nor did I find something about this in the first 200 of the 795 matches I got...
So: Can anybody explain to me what the buttons file is and why it is so important to update it all the time via this rather tedious process of downloading it from SAS each time I add a new aircraft? Is there no "auto-updater" for it, or some guidelines on how to edit it myself?

Put simply, it is the file containing the Flight Model and Engine Model data for the aircraft in your game.
If your air.ini contains an entry for an aircraft which requires a particular FM or EM, and that FM or EM is NOT in your buttons, the game will crash to desktop at the 60% loading point.
There is no auto-updater for it, and you can't edit it yourself.
There are some topics over at SAS forum that explain it more fully:

J99, what it is and what it does is explained very thoroughly and clearly on the SAS website, but I don't think we're suppodsed to link to other sites (and I don't have time to look up AAA forum rules right now). But google SAS Buttons, and you should find it easy enough.

There is no rule here forbidding links to SAS website, nor UltraPack, nor any other mod site that I know of.

Thanks Bulau, as the various mod factions' in-fighting flares at times, I wasn't sure.
