Ever wonder what the black lines on F-86 are? - Lefty Hartnett - 25.01.2010
Ever wonder what the black lines are for underneath the rear of the fuselage of the F-86?
They indicate where the device supports must go when removing the tail section in order to remove the engine.

interesting....i've always wondered what that red "pipe" is that sticks out of the bottom of the tail. :???:

I think that red pipe is for fuel venting or dumping, not positive though.

the pipe is not for fuel pump or fuel dump its a vent so as the fuel gets burned it doesnt create a vacume and colaps the fuel tanks.

it's ok, it's not cut in half.
they are just changing the engine out. this airplane flies, based here in the states (forgot where). probably overhaul time in this pic.

That same system of tail removal is used on the P-80. T-33, U-2 and quite a few other aircraft. Notice on the Sabre that there are just four attach points holding the empenage to the forward section.
