Sinking ships with Gunfire .. - Is it possible? - HusarDerLuft - 10.02.2010
So far only managed with rockets and with bombs...
Did anybody strafe/sink a ship successfully with guns ?
- European Snake - 10.02.2010
I strafed a cargo ship with a Mosquito and a Beaufighter and they went down. I used most of my ammo, though.
The major thing is the concentration of your hits.

Yes. 20 and 30mm work best. It takes a lot of .50's to sink a ship.

you can test in mission builder by create many different ships on a map then fly different plane to see effect and result. I used unlimited ammo on plane to test each ship from smallest to big to see how certain plane can sink it in one swoop.

Sinking small ships in a Go-229 is working pretty fast... one pass, most of the time.

when I atack ships I fire 1 pair of rockets, then 2 passes with guns, finish

I have found that stationary ships are easier to sink than their moving equivalent..

From what I've sunk... Small German U-boats, surfaced can be done in with MK108's from ME-262's, landing craft can be sunk by strafing, no luck with trying to gun down cargoships with B-25H or Hurribomber yet,
