A good idea to built it that way.
Mine is made of wood because that was what was lying around when I decided to build one.

It

hi guys like the way you guys building stuff from scratch
like i do.
building a pit right now.

any way my question. is it possible to make that dof system other way arround
the 3 LEDs on the screen and the cam on the cap.
that way you don't have. that it don't look weird with the 3 LEDs on your cap.
and a cam is easy to take apart so you can make it much lighter then the 3 LEDs construction on your head.

is that possible?

Erhm. It would look way more weird if you had a webcam in your hat.

don't get me wrong like the way you build it

you can take the cam apart so you have only the inner parts.so it's much smaller.
like this guy is doing
http://www.ugolog.com/pages/build-a-spy-camera
he is building it in a fake charger. but you can make it in the inside of the cap.
with a hole for the cam lens.

if it's possible.
to make that kind of system.

You can use reflective tape on your cap or on your headphone and put the leds on your webcam.
It's a solution for the angle issue.

No it wouldn't work with camera on your head. Only 1 point might work but full 6dof won't.

Also maybe you could try the other way of building these headsets.

If you go here have a look at the 3 point clip ones. http://www.free-track.net/english/hardware/point_model_gallery.php
Here are a few examples

I almost forgot.
Using reflective tape on your cap is a solution for the angle issue and to eliminate the wires on your head.
