MSI SuperPipe OC Gf 285 - Maico - 17.02.2010
Oh what a card. I replaced a Gf 9800 a couple of days ago. The specs seemed soooo close that I was worried that I would be disappointed. However, the new card allows me to play among the new clouds with all settings maxed. This is on my secondary rig. It has a 3.0 Dual Proc with Win XP pro 32 bit. It runs four gigs of DDR3 but only recognizes 2gigs. Mobo is a Asus P5K Deluxe.
Next week's project is to put Win 7 64 bit on my other (Primary) machine. This one has 3.3 Duo Proc 4 gigs of DDR3 and 2x 8800 Ultras in SLI.
Who will run better and prettier frame rates? I will be curious till I do this.
What is your opinion of the 285 card?

GTX285 is 2.3 times more powerful than 9800GT. Right now it is an overpriced card. ATi is leading the game with its 58XX offerings.
GTX285 is a same as 2 Ultras. I am a user of 2 8800GTS 512 with OC so it outperforms 8800ULtras in SLI. I also an owner 9800GX2 which is 2 GTS 512 in one package. Same performance, but much hotter. This card is going to be used as a folding card(I am donating a computer that I have built for scientific purposes).

Ok, here are my findings. After a long an exhausting test, Win7 went in the bin.(DONT BUY OEM VERSIONS). I reloaded my 3.3Ghz machine with XP.
Machine one
3.3 Duo Proc
2 Gigs of DDR3
2x 8800Ultra in SLI
10000 RPM Raptor
Result = 12,324 3D Marks.
Machne two
3.0 Duo Proc
4 Gigs of DDR3 Same brand in both
1x Gf285 Superpipe
10000 RPM Raptor
Result = 12,344 3D Marks.
Here is what the test dont tell you. The immage quality with the two Ultras is terrible when compared to the Gf285. Also the 285 is smoother gameplay. \
Lesson learned. Your bad ass SLI is obsolete after two years.
