DepthChargers - rzwan2007 - 18.02.2010
I have Made a Mission Myself. (to sink a submerged Submarine).I made My plane a p2v2 Neptune and loaded it with Depth chargers.and tried sooooo hard to sink the submarine (the periscope is visible so i can get the target).what ever i do i cant sink the sub.the depthchargers seems to be not working.
i think it works like a bomb.
any ideas ?
i use hsfx 4.1 (full realistic)

Can submerged subs be destroyed at all? It sure isn't possible in the unmodded game... :-?

I copied and saved this from some thread.
Quote:The submarines are at the bottom of the technics.ini
I altered the data as shown here...
// Panzer
MinShotCaliber 0.037
NumShots 10 //106
MinHitExplTNT 2 //10
NumHitExpl 2 //11.2
MinNearExplTNT 2 //49
NumNearExpl 2 //16
as with the static ini and ships.ini the Panzer data is for relative strength against destruction...... I left the original data to the right of the // marks which will be ignored but available for comparison. Firstly i tried using 1 instead of 2.... but that caused a CTD.
Using the Depth charges and flying a couple of hundred feet above the moving sub I released a half-dozen pairs of charges by toggling the release (unlimited ammo)........... I then immediately hit the level altitude key and went to external view to watch..... the charges went off in pairs (3 sec. delay) and the third pair which was closest gave a 'Ship destroyed' message
That's all I have.

if i remember right i think someone proved you can sink them...even with just bombs. albeit a lot harder than the surfaced one.
Submerged Subs 'CAN' be sunk with bombs... -

Submerged submarines can be sunk using bombs.
Several have been sunk by the WTE-2TG pilots using bombers.
To achieve the best possible chance of success you need to observe the periscope wake to determine the 'line'/heading of the sub.
Then simply fly at low level along that heading and along the length of the sub & drop your bomb load so that it will straddle the length of the target allowing for the bomb time delay (if any & best there is so you don't lose your tail!) and the speed of the sub.
At the time, we sank a number of submerged subs using 4.09m with Zutis MDS ...I think about v1.0, I'll give it another go but am confident that it should still work ...all being well.
EDIT:
Tried it on the Santa Cruz map with two submerged VIIC subs using a B5N2 Kate loaded with 3 x 250kg bombs.
For the exercise I used unlimited ammo knowing that I'd need a few tries (not so if you use heavy Bombs from Heavy Bombers ...Ltd ammo is fine then).
Result = 'Enemy Ship Destroyed' x 2 VIIC artificial reefs for the fishes to enjoy.
It'll work buts its a challenge ...& thats the good part!
Give it a go, you'll be surprised.
