Link for donwload is coming...just waiting for agreement. This is the first version of the map. all is not perfect, but i can say without arrogance that a simple repaint as completely changed the face of the map you maybe already now. This shows there is still work to do with existing maps to reach the skill of the best new maps we have now. Enjoy Wink

To install this map:

1 - put the file "redko_Palau" into you mod file like this:

MODS/MAPMODS/maps/redko_Palau

2 - put the texture file "redko_tex" into your Tex file like this:

MODS/MAPMODS/maps/_Tex/redko_tex/Palau

3 - and add in your all.ini file located into your MODS/MAPMODS/maps folder the following line:

redko_palau redko_palau/load.ini
palauOnline redko_palau/Online_load.ini

It's you first download ? USE THIS FOR A PATCHED VERSION: http://www.mediafire.com/?3md1jywgjzn

Those who already downloaded the map, just DL these 4 files and install it in your texture folder in remplacement of the stock ones, easy Wink :
http://www.mediafire.com/?nmmumzkyyzy

Some Ati users may have freeze without this patched files with corrected 1024x1024 size...i have nvidia and noticed nothing but dl this anyway, maybe this have an fps impact

I HAVE EXISTING MISSIONS/CAMPAINS:

before posting error message problems on this thread, if you are trying to play missions and/or campains you already have from the stock map for exemple and you get a message saying "error string out of range" do not worry.
i just changed some bildings on the new actor.static in this version of the map, so your mission try to load the old ones, and as they don't exist anymore... you have this message! Wink

Solution is easy :
go to missions folder, there were you have the mission and/or the campains your are trying to play. for EACH mission, locate the .mis file. For EACH mission using this new map version, go to "HOUSE" chapter, and erase ALL what you have in this chapter and only this chapter.
check also if the name of the map if correct.....and that's all
save
exit
...and play Wink

Special thanks:

BIG thanks to AVALA for all the "secrets" shared for the map_c painting technic. Without him this repaint would never have reach this skill.
Fz for advertisings on forums
Goblin for having a bad CG but detecting all problems Wink
and all the others for the time spend collecting datas (Akdavis thanks Wink )or sharing advices...

Hi Redko- I know that SAS~Bombsaway's been looking at that very issue.

See here for some of his experiments
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,2208.0.html

There's one but I know he's done coral somewhere.

Hope that helps some

Triad

Hi Redko,The problem I run into with my textures are if the map maker uses too much shallow area the texture will look tiled or the "carpet" effect. Also, in the editing of map_t, "I think thats the one", the water2= will show up on the river shoreline. I have a nice coral one but it needs to be used with moderate amounts of shallow area and I have one the looks "busy" enough that the carpet effect is not so apparent.

Heres what the coral looks like...

and heres the one that is better for larger areas....

I also have many more. If you want I can try to make you a new one. Pleas let me know. Big Grin

- redko - 18.02.2010

yea i know this and bombsaway nice work. but the question is would it be a way to decrease water depth to make the areas with shallow water, and so coral, more vast. i know the toturial when making the map from zero, but i don't know if its possible to do this with an existing map

- Skunkmeister - 18.02.2010

Adding in reefs and shallows require that you edit the Map_C.tga file of the map.

Take a look at the Tarawa map to get an idea of how they achieve the effect and experiment.

Did you tried this with Palau ?

I'm looking for a way to get this:

I like Phil_K campain for Peleliu.......but the stock map is a crap !

- Bombsaway - 18.02.2010

I did try Palau but the water2= would show up on the river shoreline. When you reworked Okinawa my textures would work on it where the original map, they would show on shore. Now if your want to try getting two textures a guy called Ziggy-22 was working on that so you could have a coral out around the island and a sand in the shallows in the shallow area of the inner water areas of the island.

Yes i see. i replaced water2 by my own stock coral texture and it showed up, but i repaint over it then.

it would be interresting to get 2 textures for coral, it would be perfect with palau map and others of the PTO.

Ok here are the first pics of a repaint for Palau map, i get this after 30 minutes working on a the new set of textures and repainting just a little part of the map for test. So it's just the beginning. As you can see i found some very natural textures, savages...according to the spirit of the place :

As you can see there is really a Palau spirit there....but a comlexe set of textures for corals and reefs would be a GREAT addition to the spirit of the map. Just imagine what it could be to fight in a middle of such a beauty Wink.

Kap, if you are reading i could take this little repaint as a tutorial if you wan't. i started to back up a kind of step by step for make the textures and the painting process...

- Bombsaway - 18.02.2010

That looks really nice. One thing with the shallows though, if you can, you may want to see if you can edit the shallows places. Most of the stock maps seem to have very square or sharp corners. If you can "trim" the edges on them it would look better. I'm not sure if thats possible. Palau has always been one of my favorite maps and I had always wanted to get my texture to work on it but I dont know how to make or edit maps. I would like to see you work your magic on this map. I really like your work. If you do decide you would like me to make you a texture or if you want to use one of the ones I have already released, I would be honored.

- dunkelgrun - 18.02.2010

You could have a look at what I did with Midway Expanded. viewtopic.php?t=22480
It's all map_c edits, apart from a tile to stop the reefs looking like great lumps of land.

Bombsaway i would be glad if you could participate to the project  . do you already have textures like you first pic but with a more sandy look ?
