SOW screenshots 2010-02-19 - Turul - 19.02.2010

"Today we will post unusual things for flight sim.

_Probably_ these objects will have own code, working similar to Radar's code, but with other range and angles and connection to some objects involved in a gameplay. Don't ask me how it would woks! I just try to put some food for the brains

In worst case - it will be damage-able surroundings with the possibility to add code later.

However the main news for the last week you all should wait from Gr

Keep up the good work!

Uh, you spy on neighbors, too?

Anyway...

Good day, Turul

I very much like everything in the screen capture except one thing. The shadows, textures, geometries, and so forth look fantastic.

The only thing - and I feel it is important - is to more randomize the land texture in order that no repeating pattern is visible. The grass texture is a huge improvement over IL-2. However, the repeating texture patterns are obvious and distract me from the realism immersion.

Listen!! Please!! You 1C: Maddox Games fellows are doing a fantastic work! Please do not tarnish the overall effect with this texture pattern in the landscape and forests like in IL-2. Overcoming this would be major accomplishment for visual appeal.

Thank you much, Turul, for the good stuff. Big Grin

Fireskull: oleg is only showing this in an object viewer. In no-way is this part of the terrain or part of the final map Wink

Pal, sure, it is not the final-we know that. Just in case this was headed for the final, I wanted to highlight this. Hopefully this is not some kind of " pattern " in the modeller's studio! Oleg did make very strong promises of realism. I say, bless him for that but, you know me, I will continue to apply my influence to make sure no back tracking happens.

Thanks Oleg and 1C for your fantastic work!

True Wink IMHO we must surely see terrain in Il-2 that has no repeating pattern whatsoever. If BoB2 WoV can achieve this, then a new game like SoW certainly should as well! Tongue

It is an anti aircraft artillery director. It was used by the Germans to listen for incoming bombers and then direct artillery and fighters into their path.

Yes, indeed this is true. Actually, both British and German equipment existed in this category. I should add that the opposing fighters particularly hated these devices. If they discovered the location of such a unit, it was often on their minds to attack it.

This equipment was actually quite effective in discerning the approximate altitude, bearing, and speed of aircraft, as well as being a kind of early warning system. The sound could usually be detected long before the aircraft was seen with the better equipment and well trained crew. The enemy would certainly like to destroy this if they had opportunity.

The possibility of these eventually becoming fuctioning models in Storm of War only blows my mind to blissful nuttiness! These and other developments will create true virtual war immersion in the Storm of War series.
