IL-2 at high altitude. - liamp51 - 19.02.2010

Hi all,

Just wanted to point something out. The high altitude IL-2 atmosphere seems kind of wonky, just the way it looks. When you are flying around at say, 7500 meters, you get that weird "mist effect" outside the cockpit and inside. I respect that that is supposed to be ice crystals, but it just doesn't feel right. Also the ground looks a bit pants at high altitude, the terrain just isn't quite right with the way it is formed. Might be because in IL-2 we use "maps" and not a "globe". Flight Simulator seems to have gotten high altitude effects right. Not the way it feels but the way it looks.

Just an observation,

527600 meters here. The world looks like an ugly ball from there.

That's because you were never intended to fly that high. IL2 is a game intended (originally) to honour the Sturmovik, and the idea was to fly lots of low altitude ground attack missions.
