Hi Jonester589,
First of all, you need to patch your game with the 4.08 and 4.09m patch (not 4.09beta!), assuming that you have Il-2 1946 from the disc (version 4.07) that is.
Then, you have several choices. Most popular these days seems to be to install HSFX, or UltraPack 2.0, which includes HSFX.
Using the, search function, you should be able to find links to tell you where to download the patches and either HSFX, or UP 2.0.
Good luck,
RB

Hey, I'll give you the rundown.
There are two major mod packs to use as a base. Choose the one you are more comfortable with.
Option 1. You can use the HSFX mod. You should know that AAA supports and is included into the HSFX mod packs now. You can read about what is included and how to install it
HERE. Please note you will have to download and install HSFX 4.0
then download and install HSFX 4.1.
Option 2. You can get Ultra-Pack 2.0. UP 2.0 has more mods than HSFX, and is a very good pack. I would probably recommend UP 2.0 for the following reasons. You can easily switch between HSFX and UP2.0 via JSGME mod activator. So if you play online alot, you can switch from UP to HSFX and play online, and when you are done playing online you can switch back to UP from HSFX and enjoy other mods offline. Or if you are an offline player, UP has additons that HSFX does not, like adding infantry that move and fire like tank units or opening canopies for almost all planes ... you can get UP2.0
HERE. Please also note that if you go the UP2.0 route, you will want to get the
latest buttons file from SAS.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask the gents on either site, or post back here.

Am I correct in saying that if you want to introduce further mods, beyond those in HSFX 4.1 & 4.1, you create a MODS folder and place them in there?
Will they automatically take precedence over what HSFX uses eg for clouds?
Thanks in anticipation.
