Yes!!! On my Win 7 64-bit it's just perfect!
- freakypunk1 - 24.02.2010
Works just fine

works perfect for me also

Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit
Works great.
A couple of points to bear in mind though:
1. Don't install it into the "default" path, stick it somewhere else.
2. When you run any updates, mod packs etc, right click and install as administrator.
I think it runs better and looks better also

How in the heck did you get it to install at all? Did you use the DVD? I have Windows 7 32bit, and I can't get the game to install. I have it on two drives already, so it's no sweat playing the game, but I would like to start from scratch with a complete reinstall, so I could try to us the U.P. One thing, my DVD drive seems like it is never gonna read the DVD. It takes forever. The autostart doesn't work, but maybe that is because it isn't done it XP? Finally when it does, it tries to start but then I get something like "1628 error" or something like that, and that's it. Have you got some secret way to make it happen? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Working perfectly here. 64bits.

Bob,
Install it using "a.exe" off the DVD. Right click and run as administrator.

Geoff, I appreciate your responses, but I tried that. I also tried "Compatibility Mode"
along with the run as administrator. I double clicked a.exe as well. Nothing seems to work. I just keep getting the "1628: Failed to Compete Installation" message. It tries, but just quits. What I am attempting to do is try the Ultra pack I hear so much about. But from all I read I need to have a fresh install of the game to work with. My problem - I have an install that has no mods of any sort, but it does have the patch 4.09b1m. Is there some way I can get rid of that patch, and just install the final 4.09? Will it install over it? I'm pretty much at my wits end (when you are 67 yrs old like me, that isn't very far) trying to get a clean, fresh install. I'm beginning to think I should just forget the U.P. Any further advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You're right you DO need a clean install to try UP2.0
I can only think that either:
a) your DVD disk is damged/scratched/dirty
or
b) your DVD drive is not reading the disk correctly

You know Geoff, I was thinking the very same thing about my DVD player/burner. I don't know how long I've had it, I think I have used it for my last two builds at least, and I have noticed it has gotten very slow reading a DVD, and the process it goes through (autorun?) when my IL2 '46 was in it took forever for anything to come up. I guess maybe I'll have to break down and buy me another one. Maybe that's it.
Thank you for your patience. I'll let you know what happens.

Does Il-2 1946 work in Direct X 10 mode under Windows 7? I doubt because Il-2 was developed when Direct X10 didn't exist...
But apparently the game looks better under Windows 7 than under Windows XP (and Vista too?)
So it's worth trying...
Will SOW exploit Direct X 10 technology under Windows 7 or Vista??
I wish Windows XP could use Direct X 10, but that's not possible apparently. Even with XP SP3?

mavyalex,
It's generally accepted that the best way to run IL2 regardless of the OS is to run it in OpenGL mode.
As far as I'm aware, OpenGL is THE only way to get perfect textures.
My game looks great, but that's more to do with the excellent texture mods that are available to install. The "normal" textures look ok as do the "perfect map textures" in UP2.0 but for the me, the biggest improvement was the addition of "VP map textures" - it looks stunning now.
I would have thought that SOW will stick with DX10, prob not DX11 but who knows in future patches.
