Positive Commentary on HSFX - Fireskull - 01.03.2010
Good day to all.
For guys wondering about this HSFX, whether you are a new member or a veteran who is undecided:
HSFX is a system of mods which uses the same file structure as the most effficient ones of IL-2. The crucial files for file handling performance are compressed for many beneficial reasons. The architecture of the file tree makes for easier finding and understanding of files and issues about them. The JSGME mod switcher makes handling your mods a snap. All around, it is the superior mod pack system.
A few months ago, the main leaders of the biggest modding groups came to an agreement that this would be the platform for online compatibility. They also had the vision that the IL-2 communities would be better served by offline flying and mutual support for that.
This is what many wanted for unification. Though add-ons of HSFX 4.1 are coming, this will remain the backbone for some time to come.

I agree. What do you think about up 2.0 which contains a HSFX switcher ?

Hi vzka,
I feel that it is very important to try different mod packs. So far I have used the UI and the HSFX. This philosophy can really open a bunch of opportunities to have more fun and learn a bunch of useful skills, too. On top of this, you can swap the planes and mods that you prefer in many cases. Such a guy is a mods collector. Many pilots do this.
Consider having one mod pack for online flying and another one, even if it is a mere copy, for offline experimenting and flying. This would be wise if you can do it.
Of course, this inevitably points a guy's attention to UltraPack 2.0 Frankly, my schedule is full with projects, yet I want to eventually give it a thorough test fly. Some guys love the 2.0, others are ambivalent ( simultaneous conflicting thoughts and feelings ), and a significant number just plain hate it.
From what I have read about it, it has strengths and weakness like all mod packs. Though HaDes and his team are intense at defending it-bias allowed-they have also kept their right to argue for it. Commendable, if you think objectively. On style, I wish they would be more tactful. Another credit to them is that they
are listening to the modding community and have made some revisions to the UP 2.0 More will come.
However, I feel that the fact of there being a bunch of other mod packs and many mods creators could mean that UltraPack is at least partially causing polarism in the IL-2 Society. Unintentionally, I might add. On the other hand, it is putting the proverbial fire under the hind quarters of other teams. Here is where you must follow your conscience. Go where you believe that it is right.
I urge all parties to respect the overall work of mod pack teams. Therefore, I recommend trying UI, HSFX 4.1 series, UP 2.0, or maybe one or two others. This is the only way to stay objective and be fair. Are there problems? Sure-but we can all agree to treat one another respectfully and maybe learn some things for ourselves in the process.
Have I failed once in a while? Yes, but I want to encourage others to be mature and get back in the saddle, too. This is something that we all need.
Bottom line: Vzka, Don't just believe all the reports about it; try it for yourself.

By the way, online pilots should find a good squadron that suits you and use the mod pack that they use. Especially, a squadron with direct affiliations with other squadrons would be the best for you.
We have a Squadron List Sticky topic in the Announcements Forum.

To me the choice is quite simple, use plain HSFX (with its minipatchs) if you play a SEOW campaign.
If you want to fly in dogfight server "Spit vs 109 mod" , use UP2.0 and "warbirds of prey switcher".
In any case, UP2.0 is based on HSFX, and it's great that mod packer have agreed to cooperate, hopefully this will last.
