Can you join other people from IP? - armydan - 06.03.2010
I have 2 friends who play il-2 and they have 3 computers at their house that we use to play coop or 1v1v1.
sometimes i can't go over to their house to play so i want to know if it's possible for them to not be port-forwarded, like LAN play, so i could just join his game from the il-2 multiplayer join server by putting his ip in it. Would it work or do i have to use hyperlobby?
Yes you can do that. - mnlk999 - 06.03.2010
All you need is a program called DynDNS and you can get it a DynDNS.com
Just followthe instructions and you'll be set to host.

i might be able to help u here mate, has he got a router with the firewall enabled?
If he does, all he needs to do is open up a port threw the routers configuration... e.g. if the computer that is hosting the games has the IP address of 192.168.0.2, then create a TCP and/or UDP (maybe someone can clarrify what type of port it uses) port in the router with the port number 21000 (being IL2's default port number).
Then all he needs to do is give you the WAN IP of his router, which is also found in the router config, and you type the ip number with the port number (e.g. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:21000) after it and you should be flyin

you only need his ip. port 21,000

no port forwarding on the router??
- armydan - 06.03.2010
So all i need is to put in the ip with the 21000 and bingo? Like 198.128.1.1:21000??
just an example.
Whats does DynDNS do, and do we all need it to play or just me?
- Helrza - 06.03.2010
yup, that should be it mate, but make sure the IP you enter is his routers WAN IP and not the individual computers IP

Does he have to be port forwarded?
and how do i get the WAN IP? Is there an easy way to find it, like going to a site that says your WAN IP, similar to sites that say your IP? Or does it have something to do with the CMD?

You can get the WAN IP and create port forwarding for his router in the router configuration.
He might need to refer to the routers manual for instructions on getting into the settings side (mine for example is as simple as typing in an ip address in IE (192.168.0.1), then entering the routers username and password, which enters the routers settings). From there if you goto the "gateway status" or "router Status" you can retrieve the WAN IP. There should also be a tab for firewall rules/port forwarding, in here you need to open a udp port, with the ip adress of the computer that is hosting the game e.g 192.168.0.2, and the port number which is 21000.
Again, if you cant find the tabs, or unsure where to look once your in the routers config, refer back to the manual for the whereabouts of these settings.

So basically i can't host a game from il-2 and have him join without my port forwarded, if that's the case then this sucks because i have no manual and i don't know what kind of router i have.

Have a look on the router for the company make and model number eg: netgear dg834g. Then do a search for the manual on the net, the makes website generally has a downloadable one

You can also downloading Hamachi.
It creates a fake Lan, only your friend have to join on the Hamachi Server,
than you have to change the port in the IL-2 configurations and you can play IL-2
on a faked lan.

Typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser should open your router CP. You will need to find the password though, either from your ISP or whoever provided your router.
The login screen should give you some info on type and model though.
Don't forget to set firewall permissions for IL2 as well.

Turn the thing over, and read what it says on the sticker.
