Sound of bullet hit - csteimel47591 - 14.03.2010

Hey all,
For some reason, the sound of bullets hitting my plane is really loud compared to all the other sounds. If I turn my volume up to that I can hear the engine.etc it makes the "bullet hit" sound almost deafining...? If I turn the volume down so the "bullet hits" sound normal, I can't hear anything else... Why is the "hit" sound so much louder than anything else and how do i fix it?

I've got UI 1.1 Whenever my plane gets hit,

And oddly enough I seem to have lost the sound of bullets hitting my plane altogether.

Previously I used to be able to hear them plunking into me long before I saw any other sign of being hit, but now I have a sudden splash of oil, or a red screen denoting being wounded, without any previous warning sounds of bullets hitting or flying around.

I can't pinpoint when this happened, but I have a slight suspicion it happened when I installed UP2.0 ...

I suppose this is in some sort of adverse relation to the above problem, so any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I lost my sound of bullet hits too. Whish I had that back. Would have saved me a time or six.

The first thing to look at is the preset file for this sound. The name of the preset is "hit.air.prs" and it is located in the files\preset\sounds folder. Open the preset file and it should look something like this:

[common]
mode normal pos
undetune 1
type normal

[spl]
130

[samples]
exp3_11.wav
exp2_54_1.wav

[sample.exp3_11.wav]
env 2 8
usr 0

[sample.exp2_54_1.wav]
env 2 8
usr 1

Make sure the [spl] value is somewhere in the 110 - 130 range. If it is higher than this the hit sound may be so loud that it mutes the other sounds in the game!

Next thing to look at is the sound samples themselves. There are two samples, "exp3_11.wav" and "exp2_54_1.wav" and they are both located in the files\samples folder. Open each of these .wav files using a sound editor (I use Goldwave) and play the sound. If the sound seems really loud you may want to lower the volume level of the sample. Alternately, if the wave file is in stereo you can save it as mono. This will lower the volume dramatically without altering the sample.

Hope this helps!
