Planes fail to take damage when they hit the ground - BritishRabbit - 25.03.2010
I have an issue - I have vulnerability turned on, the bad guys can -really- make a mess of my plane but it never explodes on contact with the ground or even takes damage, at all. What could be causing this? No matter how nasty a crash is, nothing happens.

Do you have "realistic landings" enabled?
Cheers,

No, but it seems odd that such a small change would cause planes to bounce off of the ground after a nose-dive, i'll try it.

also check invulnerability or arcade features

I did say I have vulnerability on :<
Edit: Good god, it seems the realistic landing option was the problem, thanks!

Dear all
I have a similar problem -but worse:
when any aircraft is shot down, it doesnt crash! It dives, but then just hangs suspended about 5 metres above the ground :- prop still spinning, but otherwise motionless.
It stays that way till you exit the mission.
Any help on this? [its not the realistic landing switch!]
thanks
felix

To add to what I said , above
this problem is really weird !!!
I have found that the non-crashing bug only happens over the sea, OR OVER SNOW !!!
any other ground surface is OK
please help !!!

I guess I'm just talking to my self here - but what a great audience I am ! ....
relax folks - I found the problem. And the cause is very strange indeed.
It's due to leaving the autopilot on for a long time, while flying certain aircraft eg B29 and RDW10. [?not all]
If you get shot down in autopilot over water - you may crash normally, but all subsequent AI that get shot down just hang over the water,
& this produces a MASSIVE reduction in frame rate.
aint that weird??

I sure am the easter "bunny" here. The problem is nothing to do with the autopilot
it seems to be related to slow frame rates over water - even very low quality water!
Although the FRAPS rate doesnt fall below about 30, if you land a seaplane, you cant take off again!
If you try to accelerate on the water surface, the plane just locks in place - permanently.
Ive tried several seaplanes - they all do it.
Ive tried numerous conf.ini versions, and Nvidia card setings [I run a 9600] - but nothing helps.
this is driving me nuts!
Is anyone out there? If so, please stop laughing, and say something !!

time to put this soliloquy out of its misery:
I've given up - this problem is beyond me.
Time to abandon all & start again. HSFX is long overdue anyway.
Over & out.
