Luftwaffe landing gear - slimbill - 26.03.2010
I dont know if im the only one whos noticed this but why do almost all the luftwaffe planes have a red mark on their landing gear wheels?

This is just a guess, but maybe a marker for where the filler stem is?

Its actually a slippage mark to tell if the tire has rotated on the rim during a brake lockup, American aircraft had them also.

Safety wires, right. I was an Aircraft Mechanic some moons ago. Still in use today, in fact its not just for break lock up. Those tires hit the pavement not rotating and will match the aircraft's speed in Milli seconds.
The tire "Bead" is not supposed to slip, if it does someone needs to change it out. The rubber is trashed. Oh inspect the rim as well....
