You say you lost the tail at 2300 metres odd, did it fall from 2000m and stop there? or did it hit the ground?

Actuallt that was a built-in feature of B-29 in case of tail falling off, shut down right engines and you'll fall safely. In case of dangerous landing the 'helicopter maneuvre' makes you lose your consciousness.
