A cheaper alternative to TrackIR - Joystick 2 Mouse - Acorno - 18.04.2010
This is my first post ever on a forum, so don't be hat'n too hard.
Playing full real servers, landing on carriers, and many more things are hard or impossible to do without the help with TrackIR. Although i've been only playing flight sims for 2 and a half months (il2 is my first flight sim EVER), i have realized that, without the help of TrackIR, you are stuck with really crappy controls to look around with. Most players have there hands on the throttle and stick, but there isn't another hand to work the mouse, so many players are forced to use padlocks, only thing is, padlocks are not very reliable, they break locks easily, and you can't use them in full real servers.
My solution, though not as good as TrackIR, helps a whole bunch. Basically, i tried to get my hat controls to work as smooth as my mouse. No more snap views.
I found this program called Joystick 2 mouse. Basically, it allows you to change your joystick into a mouse, and you can set a whole bunch of hot-keys. The default settings are set so that the x and y axis become your mouse (off game), but you can set it to any button(s) on your controls.
You can download the program here:

I am using the X45 controller, i hope your works too.
if you need any help, you can ask me, but im only starting to figure out, and map out my controls.

I won't be too hard, but I think this is the wrong forum section to start off
Joy2Mouse is quite nice, but it's nowhere comparable to TrackIR IMHO.
As a free alternative to TrackIR there is Freetrack (
http://www.free-track.net/ )
It only requires you to be a littlebit creative with some electronics and buy some cheap parts.
If you have a webcam, you can get Freetrack going for under 15 dollar
@Any random forum moderator; can this topic please be moved to an appropriate forum section?

Just like Eexhaton said, your post should be in another forum. This one is meant for downloading new maps.
I think your post should be in here:
http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=30
And if TrackIr is too expensive (which it is in my opinion) you can always make your own setup with the free alternative by Freetrack. I use my Freetrack 6DOF for about two years now and it still works like a charm.
Ooh by the way, welcome here at AAA with your very first post!

that's a good first post by any standard Acorno
i moved it here as its open for general discussion, oh and welcome to triple A.

I've been using Joytokey or the Saitek software's mouse emulation to do this for ages, definitely a good idea.

Yeah, but nothing beats my Toe Mouse!
(Patent not-pending)
I go by another name ar the IL2 forums and a few years back I posted about the Toe Mouse, which is a mouse taped to your toes and moved around with your foot. I kid to not, it works pretty well. When the view gets wonky, you just reset center by hitting your POV hat switch.
Toe Mouse - available free everywhere! 8)

There's members in my squad who use "NewView" and are quite good at it.

You may smooth out your coolie-hat motions and define new lookaround areas and, and, and.
I have a used TrackIR3 and these guys are damn tough!

I've tried all alternative but i must say Track Ir is the fastest smoother and believe me i don't do pub for it.
IT IS the best and it is really improve you flight time
Of course you have to get used to it but believe me it won't take very long
My only regret is to have bought the trackclip not very convenient, i prefer the hat clip, no cable and work very well
The camera was made to pick up only infrared instead of trying to break the infrared filter on a web camera and i even tried to create a hat with infrared led with two AA batteries on the hat to achieve this
In fact if i calculate all my attempts i should bought the track ir before to save somes money
hi - RAF_Wolf - 19.04.2010
I think its good people ask this question because its not all TrackIR and thats all you can do.
I cant move my neck that much so TrackIr was not going to work for me so i learned to fly right handed on joystick and left hand on mouse and setup throttle on button on the mouse till i got a X52 pro
Then i wanted the 6DOF field of view , so i researched other options and found a 6DOF MOUSE !
If your into 3D Max model making its excellent and much faster using this mouse than any other method and in flight sims its a marvel
Its also very compatible to alot of other games like Call of Duty series and many many others its easy to configure a new game to the mouse setup , it is larger than a standard mouse but its advantages are greater than its size.
With 3 Joysticks on the mouse all with a push button switch added to the joystick head and 4 extra buttons to setup as yo like and a mousewheel and button switch its a keyboard in my left hand , so i never have to let go of the mouse.
ALSO ITS CHEAP !
http://www.sandiotech.com/index.php its only US $ 79.99 well worth looking into as a different option.
OnTop of this if your wanting to land on a carrier and make takeoffs a dream come true is a handy program that works of voice activations .
If you have ever flew the F4F you will know that the wheels/gear have to be manually lifted and lowered , this program sorts out the whole thing for you with two words
"Manual-Lift" or "Manual-Lower" the program is listening to my voice while i have my headset on and when it hears the words it switches on the program and proceeds to do as i said.
very easy to configure and can be multiple setup so not only will it lower your gear down but it also lowers the flaps and tailhook and opens the canopy all on spoken words into a microphone .
If you wanted to get smart you could word operate the whole plane from take off to landing
Setting up throttle or mixture or even prop pitch can be word operated using speech programs
Nice Post by the way :0)
Best Regards

Posted 3 years ago, but a great idea. Solved my problem--can't program mouse emulation for my x45, but mouse emulation sucks anyway, too imprecise. And the little button on the x45 for MsEm is designed, apparently, to snap off with any hard use. I have two optical mice, taped one to the toe of a sock, adjusted the mouse speed in Win Cntrl Panel and voila. I have hands-free look which is smooth, precise, and requires no processor time to speak of. Nice actually to get my legs involved in flying the plane, just need to practice a little. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't forget that there is another way besides TrackIR and Freetrack:
FacetrackNoIR
viewtopic.php?f=96&t=30299
Maybe it isn't perfect, but it is totally free and it doesn't require any hardware.
