AAA 1.2, HSX, UP....What Best For On-Line - Pooch - 23.04.2010
Wow, it's gotten crazy, and I'm getting plenty confused. So many different versions, and I'm not even sure what's different about them.
I presently have 1.2 and have LOADS of mods. But, can't seem to get on hyper-lobby. Looks like everyone has moved on to other versions.
So, what's best if you want to get on-line. I'm going to keep my 1.2 for off-line, but I'm willing to do a scratch install of whatever you tell me is the presently accepted on-line version of IL-2.
Thanks.

How long is a piece of string?.. It all depends on what squad you fly for and what they prefer, or if you don't belong to a squad then an install that allows you to switch between versions so its easier for compatibility..

Right you are, Trooper!
Here is the Community Generated Squadron List. Each name of a squadron is a link to their website. Find a squadron which has the aeroplanes, missions, and attitude which you prefer. They will give you help which is one on one to get you started, including the mod pack that they use.

I use HSFX 4.1 with my squadron and I love it. Adding and managing mods is easy with it. I have a different mod pack for offline flying, movie making, and adding mods. Do you want the best? This requires keeping a positive attitude and trying different things.
Enjoy the adventure!

I prefer UP for better versatility ( expecially online), much more historical FMs and performance for Western Front planes and online popularity. Many most known servers uses UP 2.01 like Spits vs 109, UK Dedicated 3 and others.

What is best is what your squadron uses.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I think that Kwiatek had the answer I was looking for. I don't belong to a squadron, so I was wondering the most popular one was on hyper-lobby.
It sounds as though UP might be what I'm looking for.You can actually have both, and switch between the two, can't you?

OOps! D-uh! Someone already said that.

HSFX is for online as well as campaigns. Our squadron, the Fallen Angels, has been using a native HSFX dedicated server for Dogfight and Online campaign since November of 2009 before UP 1.8 was released.
However, the upcoming official version from 1c and Team Diadolos is for online dogfight and campaigns just like the original game.

native HSFX DEDICATED?
before 1.8?
Rewriting history?

HSFX 4.1 was agreed by almost all the mod community leaders to be an effort to unify IL-2 users. Along this principle, a core of squadrons which see the big picture are united for this cause. HSFX 4.1 was published a few months ago and future add-ons are possible.

Not re-writing history. Yes it was done, might ask around how that was possible and why.

Monguse, who provided the code to allow HSFX to operate as a dedicated server?
