[Mod] Auto generated woods in maps + The method -
stuka_40 - 30.04.2010
Hi!
Well I'm not a map moder but always like many others have been annoyed with mirage liked woods in il2 so i decided to solve the problem
(il2 is capable of many things).
This mod will eliminate default woods! (illusion woods) and replace them with Auto generated trees in kuban map (Test Map).
Tested with forest 1, and 2 in config.ini.
---------------------------------------------------
You can use my method to edit your desired maps. (Observe! that this method maybe not suitable for all maps.)
well, this method has some advantages and disadvantages, one advantage is that you will get much
better FPS and natural look, and one disadvantage is the pop ups of trees! and that woods are not visible
from high altitude. judge yourself.
For the method see read me file.
Observe! that this method maybe not suitable for all maps.
Not tested in HSFX, Ultra pack or others.
Installation:
_____________
Just unrar 00vas_map.rar to your MODS folder, open your all.ini file located in your maps folder
and add this line:
vas_kuban kuban/vas_load.ini

Simple and genial...a great mod! Thank you!!!
Those unreal woods are so annoying!

Looks quite nice
However, is there a way to get around not seeing the forests from a higher altitude? e.g, giving the floor area under the forests a darker texture than the fields? If you've played BoB2-it works really well in that sim

This has to be one of the best changes to maps ever.
I wish I was a map maker so I could change the Slovakia map.

I read and tried a method of making trees appear like this. If you colored areas on My_mapC with RGB 196, then trees like these will appear in game on the corresponding area ... (after you Il-2 format my_mapC into map_c with the toolbox utility.
I think I used that method on my Australia/Queensland map ...some of the islands are treated like this, but while it works, the trees auto-generated weren't really dense enough to simulate jungle ...
I think this would work best for more arid landscapes ...

Very nice mod stuka_40 thanks.I have to agree with philip.ed.I wonder if there is a way to increase the viewing distance? This is the same way trees and forest's are presented in ThirdWire games like WOV and WOE,it should be possible to increase the distance.

Does this mean we can actually try to crash land in forest?

Auto generated trees like these do not exist as objects for the game. They are treated as if they were not there. That means you can taxi a plane through them and nothing will happen to the aircraft, no crash, no big bump, nada ...
The 3D trees made by textures placed as RGB 24 for the woods slot in the load.ini are something different. These you cannot fly through, or taxi through or anything.

Hello,
I know this is off-topic but I don't want to make a new topic just for this as I m not sure if someone else already asked it:
There are almost no wind and turbulences effects in Il-2. I mean usually when taking off or landing or close to the ground there should mych liore turbulences and crosswind, just like for gliders and also this should make landing much more difficult.
Why not implement wind effects just like in FSX?
One could chose the wind strength, direction, variation, etc...This would vary according to season .
The only nice effects are when taking off before reaching 300 meters and through a thunderstorm...

One Question. - Guest - 30.04.2010
So does this just replace all the default trees and I don't have to do anything like actually place them?
- hawker445 - 30.04.2010
Any one test it in HSFX'?

Since this is not actually a map, i moved it to WIP section.
Looks usefull, for some maps at least.
BTW. I can't see no screenshots...
