[Download] cztx_PuertoRico V1 map beta -
CzechTexan - 09.05.2010
[size=150]Puerto Rico is now ready to download here: This V1 is a test version to see if all is working right and get some feedback for if anything needs to be changed or added.
The map is sparsley populated. The airfields usually have basic populating, some harbors are populated, and San Juan has a few building and my attempt at the fort there. Compans 3D city and village textures help with the effect of populating. If anyone would like to populate this map with buildings just let me know, otherwise this is as far as I will go with it.
This map is probably a mix of modern day PR and 1940s-50s PR so you can fly your modern sports plane from modern airports or bust some nazi submarines in ww2 or fly
fictional missions like the ones I have here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/kdg4dnuvo ... co1946.zip
Those five single player missions are just a tease and part of a larger fictional campaign for this map.
Download PR skins I made here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zzmwmgjgdyd/PRskins.zip
You can also find them at Mission4Today.com.
There are 2 P-63 "Coqui Squadron" skins olive drab and silver.
One F4U-1D "Bucaneros Squadron" skin.
One YP-80 jet "156FG Bucaneros (template by Max_thehitman).

Thanks! I've been waiting to play out some Western scenarios
Hi Mr Texan - farang65 - 09.05.2010
Great to see you active again.
Did you learn how to make maps from Kevin P's tutorials?
Looks pretty good from the screenies.
Lately I have been researching the Sixth Air Force as well.
There was quite a lot of activity from Trinidad to the Panama Canal and Golapogos Islands.
I can't remember the name but I read in the area there was a base as big as Hawaii during W.W.2
(your map perhaps?)
Great Job anyway
Nice to see you active again.
Cheers kirby

Nice. Really nice.

Wow! Great map! Well textured. Opens all sorts of possibilities, sub hunting in the Caribbean, etc. Swell place for liberty, as well.

Nice map ... good for use in retaliatory campaign by Cubans after missile crisis for instance ...

I still might need to add some more seaplane bases on the main island (which I completely forgot about!) and maybe fix the runway on Isla de Culebra better. There will probably be a version 2 so some of you might want to wait to download that which would probably be a final version. Now is the time to correct and add things. Make comments or critcism if necessary. Feel free to post your own screenshots.

Version 2 or not, I'm having a blast with your PR map. Man, this is fun! Thanx for sharing and keep up the good work, it's much appreciated.

NICE!

Thanks for the praise fellas but is there any negative things I might have missed (besides maybe not having cities totally accurate)?
On Isla de Culebra I added more land area to extend the runway so planes won't start on the hill. Somehow I forgot to correct that on V1. Also been adding the seaplane bases which are essential to an island. I can have a more finalized version 2 ready soon so now is the time to correct and add things.

After giving it a quick once over I found little to be dissapointed with.
Here is what I noticed...
Missing River? Grid AO-6. Two bridges, one road, one rail, no visible reason. A dry gulch perhaps?.
Although there is a railroad on the South of the island, wouldn't there be one on the North as well? More and bigger towns would make use of a rail system I would think.
(Qualifier: I don't make maps. Perhaps laying rail is more difficult than roads.)
No Rum Factory!!! You would think in San Juan at least.....
I thought that the San Juan airfield, in the '50s, would have a civil terminal so.....
As well as an updated Control Tower:
and EMS station:
Now if I could just find that rum factory....

Boris, I see you've been busy playing with the map.
You're right, there is a railroad on the north and eastern side. I guess I should add it too.
I didn't put any rivers because they are just too wide in IL2. I did have rivers but decided not to keep them because it completely altered the real life look of the island. (I mentioned this in the WIP thread). So, what I did was eliminate the rivers and just use river/marsh type textures instead. You'll see several of delvpiers Mods bridges where roads cross these "rivers".
As for the airfields, I never populate too much because I think that should be left up to the creativity of the mission builders (such as yourself) to have things their own way. I did add some of the red Flamboyan trees, that's the national tree of PR, if that's any consolation.
Oh, and the rum factories are beside the docks! Close to the ships for immediate export! LOL!
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'll be adding some more to the map.

CT,
I understand now about the rivers. I didn't realize there was a "minimum width" issue. I can see how wide rivers would despoil the scale of the map.
As for railroads, they are one of my favorite targets so the more the merrier IMO.
I am glad in fact that you didn't overpopulate your map leaving it for us mission builders. This is perfect IMO. It gives us much more flexibility.
As for the rum factory, I suppose that the casks are stored underground anyway, out of the prying eyes of the tax collectors.
And after some searching I
did find the rum factory:
The Shipping Dock:
Private enterprise:
(is that a tax collector under the dock?)
I look forward to any improvements.

LOL nice touch boris. thanks for the screenies. I didn't know there was a crocodile mod! And those are some huge rum containers. I wonder how many gallons that factory has in storage.
I'm in the process of adding the other railroads. I forgot you're a railroad man and you pay more attention to RR things. I think I'm going to not add any railroad stations. You'll be able to populate the RR stations however you like. I tried to get the railroad tracks up to a part of the city textures that looked like a decent place to have a station. - that's the hard part. Laying tracks is not that difficult but luckily this is a small map so I layed all of them by hand-eye-zoom close method (roads too). Most tracks are laid now but now I have to add their bridges which is a little more time consuming.
For those of you who have not seen it yet, VinVin made a Puerto Rican flag mod and you can get it in the MODS download forum: viewtopic.php?p=318438#318438
