Do these mods exist? - vipe155 - 26.05.2010

I'm very new to modding Il-2; I only recently discovered that mods were available. Il-2 is a well done game, but stock it was never quite to my taste. I like some parts of it, but am more of a WW2 Fighters/Aces of the Pacific or Europe type. I'm now trying to tailor the game a little more to my liking, with more Western Front gameplay, different music (40's jazz), etc.

So, I've searched around but haven't quite found a definitive mod for a few aspects I would like to change:

1. Is there a mod to change some of the radio chatter, namely the English/American voices? A lot of the statements and sounds of the actors are just dopey IMO.

2. Are there some good Campaigns for CanonUKs channel map, German and British? How about a Western Europe American campaign?

3. Has anyone been able to replace the horribly wrong ship models present in the game? Such as the KGV class BBs at Pearl Harbor, and the lack of any serious British/American/German capital ships?

4. This may be an unspeakable crime to some, but I really have no interest in flying Russian aircraft, or playing in the Eastern front anymore. Nothing against anyone, but I would like to straight out remove the Russian maps, campaign, aircraft, etc. I know how to remove the aircraft, but can the rest be gotten rid of?

I would really appreciate any help you all can give. I'll keep looking in the meantime.

There are a few voice packs around but I don't have any so I can't really find them for you. You actually cannot remove all those planes. You may have just removed the lines in Air.ini but they game still loads them I think, they just don't appear, SAS go register there, another great mod site.

Hi,

I'll help the best that I can:

1) Yes-I don't know where.

2) Yes-I don't know where.

3) Yes-I don't know where. There are ship skins as well as better ships-somewhere.

4) Yes-I don't know how.

I wasn't going to really "remove" the Russian aircraft or anything, just hide them. If I can hide the maps as well fine by me. I realize this was made by a Russian developer, and obviously they hold Soviet aircraft in high regard, I just don't use them, and hate how Soviet stuff is kind of the game default (hence the title of the game, I guess... :rollSmile

Most of these things aren't major, but I haven't had much luck finding them either. To me the Il-2 mod system and what is offered is very confusing, with an overload of information. It doesn't help that I've jumped in so late in the game.

Thanks for the links and help so far everyone.

Vipe155,

The HSFX 4.1 and add-on called the HSFX 4.11 are both used by me. With this mod pack which installs into the main IL-2 folder, you will get a very useful switcher. It is called the "JSGME Mods Enabler". The switcher comes with a bunch of fun campaigns in the mod called DGen Offline Campaigns. With the mods you will get a huge number of flyable planes - over 300 of them! It comes with many fun aircraft "skins" (paint schemes). Plus you get late model ships, too. I have only taken a peek at the ships but know that many new ones were added. Some have specific skins for certain battles or periods during World War Two. Now, please forgive me because I forgot about those ships right under my nose, so to speak.

I am totally sure that if you get the HSFX 4.1 and then the HSFX 4.11 add-on, you will be quite happy with it. You'll need to take a short time to learn the JSGME Mods Enabler, but once you do it will be a big time saver in a bunch of ways. Once you get it, then you'll really be thankful for it.

The HSFX loads faster than any large mod pack that I know. The transitions between functions are snappy quick. It even causes a bit better performance of IL-2! You'll be amazed at the mods that can be activated.

Here is the link to our topic about how to get your HSFX mod pack:

Funny you should mention it, I just discovered HSFX. I downloaded a couple of campaigns for the Channel Map, and found out UI was required. I then found out that whatever is required for those campaigns in UI are also in HSFX, so I have started downloading it. I kind of hate that I have spent all of this time manually modding the game, and now I have to start over with a different mod, but this should have 95% of what I'm looking for. Anything else I'll just add manually after that I guess.

Yes, I understand completely because I went through exactly the same thing. For a while, I was using the UI for offline flying and mods collecting while I had the HSFX 4.1 for online flying with my squadron.

The HSFX is so much easier for adding and managing mods that I went completely to it. I also figured that mods are being published and old ones improved for the better at such a fast rate, I might as well start at the beginning to get at the latest stuff and not have the extra work of remembering the unique ways that some things had to be installed in the old days, tracking the file path, disabling the old mod if only comparing the two, then installing the new mod...

I got tired just thinking about it!

Now with the HSFX system, everything has the potential of being quicker and easier. Big Grin
