HSFX / UP hardware requirements - Tommy544 - 01.06.2010

Hi,

my friend has installed clean version of Il-2 1946 patched to 4.09m. We are playing together on some online servers where he enconters some problems like that he doesnt have cockpits in some planes and for example that he can't open bomb bay doors. It is no problem for him to install HSFX or UP mod packages but he doesnt have very strong PC. In fact he is playing on medium to low settings.
So the question is: if he installs one of these mod packs, then he will have to activate I think it is called History mod to have all these new additions to the game, right? He of course doesn't need any new effects or other enchantments. So if he activate only that History mod, will it have any effect on the performance?
And if it would be too much for his PC, is it possible to just add few standalone mods to MOD folder? Will he then need any "mod activator" or will the game recognize it automaticaly?

Thanks

List the Spec's of his computer. That would help to know and give a
good answer.

Hi, Tommy544

The HSFX 4.1 and 4.11 add-on for it might actually improve IL-2 performance a little depending on your choice of settings. I use it and this has been my experience. In the JSGME Mods Enabler, if you activate Low Effects, then that should help especially when there are many planes, objects, and damage effects during mission battle. The HSFX 4.1 is an unusually fast loading mod pack for a large one, by the way.

Adding of any one among the many mods possible out there probably won't hurt IL-2 performance or a small decrease in some cases. A few mods can put a big hit against performance! This is one of the many reasons why I like the JSGME Mods Enabler because the user can easily activate or deactivate mods and quickly see the results.

Usually an IL-2 fan can add some mods with no noticeable hit against performance, but this can have exceptions.

Some mods are not compatible with certain mod packs. Always get instructions from the publishing website, author of the mods, or the READ ME file that often comes with the mod.

Activate the History Mods to get a bunch of cool stuff with no worry about any significant performance decrease, if any. For offline, you may want to try the Dgen Offline Campaigns. Anyway...

Corrupt files in the download can cause many kinds of strange things in IL-2. Also, having incorrect graphics card drivers can do it. Conflicting graphics settings can also cause anomalies such as you described.

In the below links, I will help you get to the general areas ( topics and posts ) where you can look and see several crucial subjects to examin and fix the issues.

1) How to handle a mod pack download

The techniques are simple once you read my help post and try them a couple times.

In the post of the following link is my help post with multicolored writing about half way down the webpage. Do not mix the Unified Installer with anything else. Most of the information in the posting is very important for handling any mod pack.

Look for the post called "Mods Download Help Here..."

2) How to get the HSFX 4.1 mod pack

This mod pack includes very nearly all the UI 1.1, 1.2, and beta 1.2.5 mods plus a bunch of other mods like SAS, HSFX, and so forth. It comes with the HSFX 4.1 download.

Here is the link on how to get the HSFX 4.1 and later you can get the 4.11 add-on for it.

3) Adding mods to the JSGME switcher

4) Image and Performance of IL-2 - Understanding and controlling the relationship of the computer to IL-2 technical issues

My tech topic here is a thorough revelation of how to get steel grip control of IL-2 and your computer in relationship to it. Give special attention to Benchmarking, Optimization, and Tweaking. The whole topic is loaded with great information.
