Use a visible plates of a kind not used else in the map first and exchange them with the blank plates with an editor processing the outacted actors.static outbuildings.txt.
Re: Blank Plates - dunkelgrun - 22.06.2010
The blank plates aren't any use for screenshots as they are invisible. They are used in mapbuiding to make runways, taxiways, etc in areas where the mapbuilder doesn't want them to show, e.g. a basic grass airfield. Like all runway plates they reduce the ground friction enabling aircraft to move easily. (Try taking off in a Gladiator on a patch of land that doesn't have plates on it - it hardly moves!) Someone made a mod that reduces the friction over a larger area, but I still prefer using the blank plates.

So do I use the blank plate to basically make the ground "behave" as it were an airfield?
That's it, yes. But make sure that your ground is actually 'flat' before placing the plates, i.e. edit the area in map_h so that it is all at the same height.
