I highly recommend joining a squadron.

You'll be amazed at the variety of squadrons for IL-2. There are thousands of online squadron pilots. This includes fighter, bomber, ground attack, or all of these.

How do we find our way in so many opportunities to fly online?

We have a Community Generated Squadron List. Though it is being reconstructed at this time, I suggest sending a Private Message to Billfish who is the author. Get her recommendation on a good online squadron.

After choosing an online squadron that suits you and being accepted by them, then you simply use the mod pack which they use. They will give you all the one on one help that you need.

One of the many advantages of an online squadron is that most of them use a program called TeamSpeak. This enables the pilots to talk through their computers to one another. Using this, they can walk you through setup issues, similar to using a telephone.

Most squadrons have affiliations with other squadrons and they fly in missions and sometimes also online campaigns or special events.

Here is the link to TeamSpeak. Get the latest version and be sure to update.

Once you get TS set up and running, then you can also meet squadrons by looking at the TS public server talk channels. You can type chat to get their attention and ask for things, too.

Most squadrons are very organized and they almost all have their own website.

Another way to contact an IL-2 online squadron is to do a Search Engine such as this:

Search: IL-2 online squadron (Through Bing, Google, Yahoo, and so forth)

I've got HL, now, how do I use it?

Re: Online help. - Fireskull - 28.06.2010

Click a server name on the left column. Choose one which shows a bunch of players in it.

If you put your cursor over a server name, a pop-up window should appear which shows you what the requirements are to join, such as what mod pack if any or maybe 4.09m version of IL-2, as the case might be.

You need to join the mission servers which have the type of IL-2 which you have.

In the bottom box, you can type for help in the general chat box.

Is there any other programs like HL that people use? I'm trying to find more flyers. Send me a pm if you know.

There is FoxFire and also STEAM, but modding them might not be for the new guy, though you could get help doing it. The mods conflict with FoxFire and STEAM unless you know the tricks around them. Foxfire and STEAM are not mod compatible, so you would have to learn how to switch the mods OFF when you join those online servers.

I still feel that you should try to join an online squadron. Thousands of IL-2 pilots are doing this and you will find the squadron, planes, and missions that you like. The link is in a previous post by me above this.

What ever you do, have fun! Smile
