P-38 Camo Skinpack (16 skins) - Serpiko - 02.07.2010
Pack of 16 non-historical camo skins for the P-38 (all series). Template by IMME.

These skins feature miscellaneous camo themes and colors, all with US markings and black antidazzle on the nose and engine side (but one).
I've been almost forced to put the antidazzle, because in P-38 skins it's very hard to make a camo pattern fit the left and right side of the nose without seeing a sharp "joint line" in the center. The same is true for the engines and fuselages; that's why i couldn't avoid minor flaws near the tail.
Nevertheless, I think these skins look pretty good. If you like them, you might want to have a look at those I made for other planes. Maybe more will come
Good flying!

Again another very cool skin pack!! Love your work!
Small request! could you make a skin pack like this for FW-190 and 190d?
that would be great! :

I'm thinking about this for my next work. I hope to obtain a nice result, although FW templates are not very friendly to such camo patterns (because of parts which are adjacent on the plane but distant on the skin).
Stay tuned!

I've built alignment tools to make skinning P38s and FW190s of any model a bit easier for myself. The simplest way to describe it is to look for common areas that are shared between the sections and draw lines to match them up. Here's an example of the weathering alignment tool I use for the D-9 on the underwing joints...note the purple & red lines:
How it looks in game with the "guide" lines on:
...and without:
Also, here's an example of a P38 finished skin using a similar tool:
Custom building tools for your templates can work wonders for those pesky areas that don't seem to want to line up the way you want.
Cheers and good luck! Sorry to hijack your thread...I'm returning control back over to you.

Thx for the hint, Casey. You're right indeed, but if I checked EVERY SINGLE JOINT to make EVERY SINGLE SPOT coincide, i'd stop and throw the PC away before finishing the first skin!
Nevertheless i'll try it out, on FW skins I'm only concerned about the upper nose area.
I'll be offline for a few days and working on this. I'll let you know the results.

Once again, I must praise the work of you guys. The skin selection is amazing. Another compliment I give for the organization. You really have a nice presentation.
Salute!

No problem Serpiko
The camo patterns for MARPAT are tough enough to get onto a skin with somewhat logical mapping. The P38 has to be one of the toughest to work with as the mapping of the textures on the 3D model is absurd! Duplicated and mirrored sections all over that bugger...it's a nightmare to work with sometimes. I'd hoped that one of the talented 3D modelers in the mods community would have pitty on us skinner folk and tinker with all those nasty settings  I understand that it would be like reinventing the wheel, so that's why I've never really commented on it before on the public boards...just privately questioning (and sometimes cursing) the sanity of Oleg's 3D modelers  If you take some time and tinker with the template a bit more, you'll find solutions to all those joint area issues...and you'll be very happy/satisfied/proud of the work you've accomplished. Not to many skinners mess with the P38 for the exact reasons I stated above...really, hats off to you for taking on the Mt Everest of skinning
@ Fireskull - Cheers buddy! Most of our individual work is up at M4T, and we all just said to each other why not combine forces...hence A & A was born last year. It just made sense to have a "Skinners Team" the same way that there are "Modding Teams". Once we figured out exactly what we wanted to do with it, we slowly started chipping away at completing skin packs and adding to our library. Hopefully, we can get this next installment of the PTO packs buttoned up in the next week or so...P38s and A6Ms...Icons of the Pacific.
Cheers,
KC

Well, Casey, its very noble to at least be willing to work with other people, instead of thinking of things as a rivalry. Much more skin work can be accomplished with the total output being much greater and the work of the skinners will achieve even more amazing quality improvements by working together.
There are endless possibilities for IL-2 skins. 8)
I want to add that creating skins, or any other mod for that matter, must be fun. To be able to contribute satisfying things to the communities feels wonderful, huh?.
The people are the most important aspect of IL-2.
Serpiko, I feel that your skins look fabulous! Thank you for showing these.
It's only going to get better.
