How do I get Canon's Channel Maps Working? - Apfelstrudel - 26.07.2010

I just recently downloaded UP 2.01 and I was thrilled to see Canon's Channel map. I fired it up, but at about 30% it crashed and the error message was some thing about 3do russian paratroopers no being found? What's going on? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello,

The fact you see the paratrooper mesh error is a strange way of the game to tell you're lacking memory to build up the very large Cannon map. First a few questions though.
Do you have JSGME Mod enabler? With UP2.01 you should have.
Start the Lower Burma map in FMB, put in a plane to fly, place some objects on the airfield you take off from, save in it one of the maps in "Single Missions" and look what it does if you start "Play". Probably you'll have the same problem as with the Channel map.
Let me know how it has turned out.

Greetings,
Achilles

No problem, I'll try it, and I do have JSGME.

If you do have JSGME you may NOT enable the Perfect Map Mods. It took me a while to figure out this mod also made my missions made on the "large" maps end with the Russian paratrooper mesh error.
A second possible cause can be found in the conf.ini file directly in the game folder. Open it, and scroll down to [Render_OpenGL]. There you will notice TexCompress. This can be 1, 2 or 3. Altering this figure makes it either difficult, or easy to load the large maps. This is also the case with the line TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt, a little bit lower in the same Render_OpenGL column. Here the figure also can be altered from 1 to 2 or 3. With trial and error you can find the right settings to make your pc capable to build up the maps.
Hopefully I was able to help you with your problem.

Greetings,

Achilles

I got it working, but when I opened the map it was a grey square.

Do you mean there was no landscape and structures to see at all?

Have you changed anything in your conf.ini? The link down below will bring you to the very interresting conf.ini settings of JINX. Remember, do not change DIRECT.X settings if your game is running in OpenGL and vice versa.
