A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

Right, my first step into the IL2 Mod community and I'm a tad worried that I'm posting in the wrong section but here goes.

Hello.

I've had IL2 since release all those fine years back. Kept with the vanilla version and loved it. Always known there were mods but never really thought of getting them. A few months back I filed IL2 and all the expansions into the back of my cupboard. The reason why escapes me, a moment of madness most likely. Anyway, a few months later and I'm sorting out my cupboard and I find my copy of IL2, covered in dust and looking lonely. A wave of nostalgia hits me and I rush to my computer to install it. I'd pretty much got all I could out of the vanilla IL2 and expansions and coped with playing LAN matches with a few friends but I crave for more players and a better experience. With that in mind, I started looking for mods for IL2. Seeing various videos I looked up on mods and such, my search took me to All Aircraft Arcade which seemed to be the answer to all my problems. Hooray, I cheered, munching on a crumpet this morning.

But no, things were not so easy. Reading a month old forum post on some random forum, I discover the site has been closed down, with several comments undearneat saying how badly it will be missed. I drop my crumpet buttery side down in horror at this. My chances for revelling in modded IL2 goodness this summer holiday were crushed beneath a wave of binary bad news. Then another forum post appears in my search results. Salvation has come! The site has been relaunched as "All Aircraft Simulations" HOOORAY!! I make another crumpet immediately, discarding the old one for all the pain it had brought me just minutes before.

I register as quickly as human digits allow and now I find myself posting a new thread as I eagerly await the completion of the installation process.

With that in mind, I have no idea about any IL2 mods at all. I've used mods for other games so I have an idea on the process, but as with all games it will be somewhat different for IL2. I haven't a clue where to start as there are no doubt hundreds upon hundreds of mods for IL2. I'm like a kid in a candy store and I have no idea where to start. I don't want to download every mod under the sun, only the best and most useful. I also really, really want to play online as I never have done so in IL2 so is the online combat community still active?

I'm sure I'll come up with many other questions to annoy and frustrate you all with so I apologise in advance.

Thanks all! Big Grin

I'm really not an expert at all as far as mods are concerned, but for online I recommend you get Hyperlobby:

IL-2 is very alive as far as multiplayer is concerned.

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

Thanks guys! Just downloaded the Hyperlobby mod, now downloading the 4.08, then the 4.09, then HSFX 4.0 then finally HSFX 4.1 Big Grin

What is the total size gonna be for this entire download spree?

Any other "essential" mods that are required for online play?

Again, thanks guys.

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

Another question, is there any way to have IL2 in 1440X900 dimensions?

Re: A big Hello to you all! - FlyingShark - 26.07.2010

Go to your Il2 Sturmovik files, open the Confini file and then copy the following:

width=1440
height=900
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

The lines of width, height and set SaveAspect to 0 are the ones you have to change. They are found at the top of the Confini file.

Good luck.

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

"Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\conf.ini file. Make sure that the path and file name are correct."

Is the message I get once I try to save it :?:

Hi Terra Firma,

Welcome and enjoy! Big Grin

Two things - you have Windows 7 and you shouldn't install IL-2 into C:\Program Files\xxxxxx !? Or you are a User and not an Admin ?

Jambo :wink:

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

I'm admin (the only user as well) and I'm running Vista 32 bit.

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Ectoflyer - 26.07.2010

click right on conf.ini and look at properties, maybe the file is reading only

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Terra Firma - 26.07.2010

It was. However I unticked the read only box and repeated the process but it still came up with the same message. About installing it in program files, why shouldn't I and how can I remedy that without having to re-install all over again.

Re: A big Hello to you all! - Ectoflyer - 26.07.2010

you must untick AND apply
