HSFX4.11 first time installed, few additional questions - kjk - 29.08.2010
hi (guys),
I bought IL-2 1946 a few days ago and decided to try the HSFX supermod. I don't know what exactly the difference is between the two or three supermods that are around, but I'm sure they are all very good in their own right. I don't do multiplay.
According to the documentation (4.0 readme file) it is highly recommended to enable S3TC compression, however in the video tab setup I can't find this option. Has it become obsolete since? I couldn't find it in the readme's.
I installed the perfect map textures mod with jsgme, but under the settings 'perfect' remains grey, so how can I enable this, anything else I need to do?
The battle of britain video on Youtube was actually the reason for me to buy Il-2 1946 with the AAA mod (now included in HSFX if I'm correct). It's great there is an English channel map. I don't know if there are any BoB missions, I'll create my own then. I was on the map also looking for those radar sights, but I can't find them (on both maps). Does anyone know if these are objects you have to place yourself? Question is a bit off topic.
Thanks.

To enable S3TC compression from il2setup.exe, here:
In Dover there are radar stations.

Thanks guys, but just one problem. When I use OpenGL and I open a terrain map the menu and border sliders become unreadable. Is there a solution for this? The main menu looks somewhat more pixelated than is the case with DirectX drivers. I have the video settings as suggested by ton414 in the setup menu. Do I need to change some setting in my videocard settings as well?

You should optimally configure your graphics card from the control panel, adjusting many values.
- Anti-Aliasing
- Anisotropic Filtering
etc.
Yes the S3TC compression produces pixelation on the menu.
Here's some information to optimize IL2:

Kjk, regarding the border and menu parts of maps being unreadable:
In my case this was
a) related to my earlier Ati driver 10.4 (Ati Catal. 10.5, -10.7 and -10.8, most probably -10.9 as well dont "have" this prob..):
Unless you haven't flown a mission and fired some gunrounds or switched views a cuple of times, depending on your driver, you may have a graphical anomaly causing this error on maps and also when trying to exit from quick missions. Flying around a while cures it and it only happened in the first mission.
b) If you have enabled any "Zuti" mods with your Generic Mod Enabler (named
"JSGME.exe"-main install folder), you may experience problems with maps and saving missions as well. Disable all mods with Zuti in the name before making new missions in new maps. Once you have a mission in a new map, you can use that one as a template. If you do so, you can leave the Zuti mod on.
You can enable the Zuti mod again after building your new mission. You only need to disable it for new missions.
Only probs I had, hope this helps a bit and doesn't confuse.
Cheers

Thanks.
you should be able to find BoB missions floating around the IL-2 sites
