A few noob questions please help me - Conte Zero - 04.09.2010

I have been away from Sturmo for too much time. Now I'm back and I find a new forum, new huge mods and stuff, I feel a bit lost.
Before logging back I did my install, so at the moment i have

Sturmovik 1946 - updt 4.09
AAA Soundmod
Bender's Ultimate Environment 1.0
3rd Eye smoke & fire

All of them installed and running.

But now I hear of this HSFX and it looks cool. The question is:

do I have to re-install a clean game to use this? Is HSFX better then the AAAsoundmod, is it like an upgrade, I mean ALL that nice stuff and more? Please tell me what should I do and if it is worth it

Thank You!!!!

Re: A few noob questions please help me - KG64_Cnopicilin - 04.09.2010

Welcome back!

The HSFX is one of the most popular big mod packs along with UltraPack.
They are huge (about 4 gigs) and have a lot of mod in them Big Grin

To install a mod pack you need a vanilla 4.09.

Cheers

Re: A few noob questions please help me - Apollo_13 - 04.09.2010

Get UP 2.01
It is HSFX with a whole lot more!
http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php

HSFX is for SEOW (Scorched Earth Online War) and as so is very specific for what they wanted.
UP 2.01 is built up off of the HSFX base and is more orientated for online play amongst the general public with a lot more added to it.

Once UP 2.01 is installed,a MODS folder can be created and added to your game to install separate individual Mods to customize it for Offline play
go to SAS for a special package that will enable your UP 2.01 game so it is ready for installing SAS Mods
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7949.0.html

UP 2.01 has the most support by the general community, and is the most accepted Mod pack for online play at this time.
HSFX is very user specific and unless you are into there scorched earth campaign then it is somewhat limited for Mods and maps

Re: A few noob questions please help me - ton414 - 04.09.2010

I've never used UltraPack.
It is true that UltraPack is larger and has more support.
I spent UI 1.2 to HSFX and the truth that you can install the mods you want.
I am using the manual method of installing the mods in the MODS folder.
I use personalised HSFX 4.11. This is my folder MODS:

First off welcome back!

It is allways good to start with a clean install before installing a mod pack like HSFX or UltraPack..

They both include the sound mods..

There is an aditional sound mod called Tiger33 sound mod that you might want to try out if you dont like the sound mod included in HSFX or UltraPack

As for which pack to use..

I recomend you get HSFX

Why?

Welll if your a big fan of the Mustangs

Than you may want to consider HSFX over UltraPack!

Why?

Well long story short UltraPack made a lot of changes to Lt. Wolf's new 51s mod flight models..

As a mater of FACT UltraPack made changes to dozens of the original HSFX new mod planes flight models..

With regards to UltraPack including HSFX..

I have yet to get a straight answer as to what version of HSFX is included..

It is HSFX 4.0, 4.1, 4.11?

And if it is 4.0 how do you apply the current HSFX 4.1 and 4.11 patch?

That is to say in UP 20 the un-did some of the changes they made in UP 1.8

That is to say the UltraPack version of Lt. Wolf's 51s are still slower and don't climb as well as the original HSFX version of Lt. Wolf's 51s..

What does that mean to you?

Well if you fly online in a server that allows mods and your using HSFX..

Your HSFX 51 will be faster and climb better than those flying the same 51 using UltraPack..

To make an analogy..

It is like the UltraPack users got the late Friday afternoon production line 51 (read lemon) and your got the early morning bright eyed and motivated production line version Wink

In short you will have a performance edge if you use HSFX wrt Lt. Wolf's new 51s

On a related note..

UltraPack also made changes to dozens of the original HSFX new mod planes EMD files..

Which has to do with the planes engines..

I'm told that the UltraPack 51s have more of a glass jaw when it comes to 'damage'

But I have not come up with a good way to test that to prove it to myself..

So take that with a grain of salt..

All in all as noted UltraPack made changes (FM, EMD, etc..) to dozens of the HSFX new mod planes..

So for your UltraPack users out there that thought you witnessed a hacker pass you by in the same plane..

Remember they may have been simply using HSFX! Wink

I have not finished checking all the flight model changes yet..

So I can only assume that some perform better than the original HSFX version and some perform worse than the original HSFX as is the case for Lt. Wolf's new 51..

But once I am done I will post my findings!

On that note here is an example of the tests I do..

Case in point the F-51D-30NA for example..

Let's compare the HSFX 4.1 ROC to the UP 1.8 ROC

F-51D-30NA HSFX 4.1 Rate of Climb (ROC)

F-51D-30NA UP 1.8 Rate of Climb (ROC)

As you can see HSFX 4.1 has a max ROC of ~4200fpm where as UP 1.8 has an ROC of only ~3500fpm

That is a difference of nearly 700fpm!

And as anyone in the know knows that the ROC testing of WWII is analogous to the modern energy methods Ps testing which is a measure of excess power. Excess power which is analogous to maneuverability.

But as noted above..

UltraPack caved to the pressure by folks like me who pointed out their research was lacking and their test methods were in error and added back some of the ROC in version UP 2.0

With that said let's compare the HSFX 4.1 ROC to the UP 2.0 ROC

F-51D-30NA HSFX 4.1 Rate of Climb (ROC)

F-51D-30NA UP 2.0 Rate of Climb (ROC)

As you can see HSFX 4.1 has an max ROC of ~4200fpm edge over UltraPack 2.0 max ROC of ~3900fpm

But that is just wrt the max ROC!

Note that at just about every altitude HSFX 4.1 performs better than UltraPack 2.0

Now let's compare the HSFX 4.1 TSPA to the UP 1.8 TSPA

F-51D-30NA HSFX 4.1 Top Speed per Altitude (TSPA)

F-51D-30NA UP 1.8 Top Speed per Altitude (TSPA)

As you can see HSFX 4.1 has a max TAS of ~445mph where as UP 1.8 has an max TAS of only ~435mph

That is a difference of nearly 10mph!

And as anyone in the know knows speed is life!

But as noted above..

UltraPack caved to the pressure by folks like me who pointed out their research was lacking and their test methods were in error and added back some of the TAS in version UP 2.0

With that said let's compare the HSFX 4.1 TSPA to the UP 2.0 TSPA

F-51D-30NA HSFX 4.1 Top Speed per Altitude (TSPA)

F-51D-30NA UP 2.0 Top Speed per Altitude (TSPA)

As you can see HSFX 4.1 has an max TAS of ~445mph edge over UltraPack 2.0 max TAS of ~438mph

But that is just wrt the max TAS!

Note that at just about every altitude HSFX 4.1 performs better than UltraPack 2.0

So now that you know more you can make a more informed decision

Hope this helps!

S!

ACE-OF-ACES and ton141, could you two kindly use thumbnails and Ace, paragraphs. One sentence is not a paragraph. First of all, mate, those pictures kill my 24Mb internet and they'd be way readable in 600x400 or EVEN SMALLER! Thumbnails, please, I know you can do it. Also, stick to the topic, don't go into details with new people. One example is enough and can be told with a couple of words, you don't need a load of large images to prove your point mate. I came here to see what's the proper mod pack to use, not to scroll down text and graphs.

I'm guessing I'll have to update my mod setup then... I have like the UP 2.0 and something else. Can't even remember anymore.

Cheers!

Disagree 100%

There is an additional sound mod called Tiger33 sound mod that you might want to try out if you don't like the sound mod included in HSFX or UltraPack

Guess you missed that part?

As for the additional information I provided..

It too is on topic IMHO

Just not welcome to your own facts

But I am sorry if that was too much info for you!

If he asks for differences between one model of P-51 @ 15427 feet with supercharger off, landing lights flashing, left navigation light broken and the pilot sleeping, then I understand you answer, but if he asks about installing HSFX then no-no.

First, I have to say that in any mod pack, you will have a gigantic collection of mods that you will enjoy.

Conte Zero, since you are already leaning toward HSFX, I will give some insight.

HSFX is a system created by the 242nd Squadron modders with the technical assistance of some individuals. HSFX 4.1 was agree by the largest IL-2 modding communities at the time to be a joint effort to combine most of the best mods which were available in late 2009.

HSFX 4.1 includes the following mods: Unified Intaller 1.1, UI 1.2, beta UI1.2.5, SAS, HSFX, some UltraPack mods and assistance, and the mods from a few other sources and individuals. The HSFX 4.11 add-on patch fixes a few things in the 4.1 and adds little in the way of mods.

UltraPack 2.0, 2.1 and later add-ons will give a bunch of UltraPack mods into a mod pack that allows you to switch to pure HSFX if you want or use the UltraPack mods.

Both the HSFX and the UltraPack have a switcher called the JSGME Mods Enabler which makes activating, deativating, and adding mods to be quite simple once you learn a few steps.

My Newbie Guide gives the basic information and links to several mod packs. Have a look!

So let me see if I understand your logic here..

Apollo_13 responds to the original post with a recommendation to use UltraPack..

A post that is located in the HSFX Forum (not the UltraPack Forum)

And gives answers/info to all sorts of questions the original posted didn't ask..

And you single me out for recommending HSFX in the HSFX Forum and providing additional information?

Strange don't you think?

You have reason, I just wanted to graphically display the amount of mods which can be installed in HSFX.

Conte Zero,

The HSFX and the UltraPack have great sounds. You can also add any of several great sound mods to either of these mod packs. As always, verify to be certain that the mod which you want is compatible with your mod pack.

ACE-OF-ACES,

Your information about flight models of IL-2 is completely off-topic to the questions from Conte Zero.

Discussion about flight models belongs in the appropriate topic about them.

S!
