A question for the online experts. - spdr109 - 16.09.2010

I am in the final stages of reworking airfields on an existing map and I thought of an
interesting feature that I would like to incorporate. I have little to no experience in online
play so I seek help from those more experienced than I.

When actual aircraft leave the taxiway they generally do not turn, go a ways, and then stop.
Don't they usually make a tight 180 degree turn before shutting down the engine?
Where appropriate, I would like to add this ability to the airfields as I feel this small feature
adds a great deal of realism. Check these screenshots.

My question though is this...

Will this cause problems for people in dogfight servers that use the “parking spots” as
spawn points? If I program in a 180 degree turn will IL-2 automatically execute another
180 degree turn leaving the aircraft pointing in the wrong direction? Are there any other
issues regarding this feature that I have not anticipated?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry but I'm not real sure what you want.
You can test your runway and parking slots by making a simple game
with AI planes say 16 -space their start times by say 5mins.
Have them fly to your field and land. Now when they land they will be backwards of a spawning plane.
Have some sort of screen capture and take a pic of where they are.
That will be your spawn points when used in a dog fight server.
I hope that is of some help.

So to spawn facing the runway/taxiway the planes must park facing away ...correct?

Re: A question for the online experts. - skyomish - 16.09.2010

Some times they may be facing which ever.
At times they will pull some ways away from the taxi way and main runway.
What I was saying is that is HOW you check to see where your spawning
place are located on your new base.
The only other way of doing it is get a group of people and have them SET STILL on the map when they spawn.

Re: A question for the online experts. - spdr109 - 16.09.2010

I am so sorry. I feel that I may have been unclear. Please let me explain.

I am in the Full Mission Builder editing the placement of all taxi points and all stay points.

I know exactly WHERE the planes will spawn because I personally placed the taxi and stay points.

I have created missions and thoroughly tested the functionality of all the airfields on the entire map.

My question is this...

Due to the dual nature of a stay point [parking spot in single player and point of spawn in dogfight] I need to know if the plane will spawn facing the same direction as it parks in a single player mission or will it be 180 degrees different?

Re: A question for the online experts. - skyomish - 16.09.2010

By what I have seen they will be 180 from the parking.

One thing you may want to try and I hope you have done this already is
test that your base can be a HOME BASE.
I was using a map of France and placed 14 home bases to test it,this map came with UP and HSFX.
When I tried to play the map only one base showed, all the rest were GONE.
When I went back it FMB they were where I had placed them, but will not show in game.

Re: A question for the online experts. - spdr109 - 16.09.2010

I was afraid of that. Cry

Thanks so much for the help though.

The map in question is North Norway (43) in UP 2.01.

Hope you will give it a look when we finish it.

MAy i ask why its a big deal how they spawn?
IF they spawn in different directions- thats GREAT harder to find the runway.
Who want easy?? Let people try it and find out.
Good Luck

Thanks skyomish Big Grin

All of the airfields have been created with a mixture of several different parking styles.

My goal was to make the airfields so that online as well as offline users would be able to use them effectively.

This should make for some interesting gameplay.
