Ultrapack Uninstall - fubar2niner - 26.09.2010

Hi all

I was wondering is it possible to uninstall Ultrapack. I want to install HSFX and then reinstall Ultrapack on top without the whole dance of Un/Reinstall my whole IL2. Thanks for any help.

Best regards.

Ultrapack 2.01 comes with a switcher, look into your Il2 installl after you've installed UP 2.01.

No need for uninstalling and reinstalling or install UP over HSFX. Just use the switcher.

WHY make and install like that??
UP comes with HSFX with it. USe the switcher to switch from UP to HSFX.
Thats all there is to it.

and if you just want to uninstall it?

Re: Ultrapack Uninstall - US_GRANT - 18.02.2011

Then you will have to re-install the whole game. Too many files replaced when you did the original install.

Also, Once you install UP, you may as well forget about adding new acft. The first time you use the switcher to go from UP to HSFX, you will have to run the updater program and it will dump all your Air.ini, Plane_ru.ini, Weapons_ru.ini entries and replace your buttons file with the original buttons from the original install of UP.

How do I know this? Because myself and my squad made the switch so we could make use of the 4.10 patch in JSGME. The first time I switched from UP to HSFX and back, I thought everything was ok until I tried to launch the game and it would not start, so I ran the updater. Then I found that none of the acft I had added were in the game anymore and I had the old buttons file.

In reality, once you switch to UP, you don't need to go to HSFX unless you like the torture of flying in a game that is more restricive. I'm sure I'll catch grief for this, but HSFX was originally designed by a small group of folks FOR that small group of folks. They never cared to help anyone that wanted to make adjustments to it because it was made for a very specific purpose and that was to play their specific type of the game. So UP is better suited to the "Masses" anyway.

Completely true - originally!

Completely UNtrue!

The HSFX team have always had (and still have with most) a very constructive dialogue with other modding groups. The team at AAA, for example, decided to go with HSFX because it was leaner and more concise due to its recompiled .sfs files. Ultrapack, SAS and HSFX were also very much in diaogue.

Adding extra mods to HSFX couldn't be easier due to the JSGME switcher included with it. See below.

UP is basically HSFX (the core of the pack) with extra mods added by using the self-same JSGME. Whether it's better suited to a particular group comes down to personal choice, of course.

PS Without HSFX, those folks who 'never cared to help anyone', you wouldn't HAVE Ultrapack in it's present form.

Re: Ultrapack Uninstall - US_GRANT - 18.02.2011

While it is true that HSFX is the basis for UP, HSFX was built in such a way that UP had to repackage practically everything. Also, HSFX was big in Hyperlobby when it first became available at AAA and not because you could get it at HSFX. However, if you look at HL now, you will see that the majority of folks are now using UP; admittedly because 4.10 is now available, but also because UP has more acft, and some of the features that HSFX employed made gaming more "restrictive". Of note, Tougher bridges, tanks, and ships. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, the ships proved to be almost unsinkable. It would take an entire squadron or two of swordfish to sink a battleship (we know because we have tried) and a carrier might as well be an island. This was done because the folks that made HSFX did so for their particular brand of gaming. That's all.

I'm not saying UP is perfect, but it didn't put such restrictions on, for the lack of a better term, recreational gamers.

And before we start down this road and totally get away from the original posters concerns, If you wish to continue this conversation, then we should move this to a separate post .

Well, we both know the answer to that one. If you don't like it, don't use it. And you probably aren't going to like the new HSFX either. We'll see if Ultrapack does anything with it, or brings out a completely separate pack that has nothing to do with HSFX. Either way is fine, there's no 'ownership' on these things.

Back to the original question: uninstalling HSFX or Ultrapack from an install of IL-2 isn't really feasible. What I do is have separate installs for them - at present I have 4.09m vanilla, 4.101 vanilla, HSFX 4.11, HSFX 4.11 mapbuilding, HSFX 4.2b1, and UP 2.01 (yes, I do have it). What IS important is keeping a clean copy of IL-2 stock, which is 4.09m - up to you whether you decide the TD patches are 'stock'.
