Rendering distance for trees and houses? -
TomFF - 08.10.2010
Hello gents, I often experience treelines and objects like houses and runway buildings on maps being rendered like suddenly popping up features. Since I didn't read about this in the past I decided to post up a question. Where it happens:
E.g.: I fly at higher altitudes above 2000m, dive lower and city buildings and trees, e.g. on my Channel maps, pop up instead of gradually being animated. For trees this counts only for treelines IIRC, not complete forest sections.
The phanomenon is distance related, both in the vertical and horizontal dimension.
Since this is not exactly a new observation to me using IL-2 over the years, my question:
Is this hardware/config.ini/setup related or a given feature of the IL-2 engine? I have seen it in other sims as well, of course.
There has to be a certain limit for features being displayed, I wonder if it is tweakable.
I run IL-2 HSFX4.11 on an XP SP2 system with setup options maxxed out and perfect landscape settings ingame with an Ati HD5770 GFX...+a decent number of mods in my mods folder and the generic mod enabler.
Thanks a lot as always for your help and cheers!

It's the way IL-2 works. About all you can do is set in conf.ini:
[Render_OpenGL]
VisibilityDistance=3
and that will maximise visibility distance, but only in Perfect Landscape mode, and I'm not sure if it does anything for buildings.

Thanks 8FS_Bulau! At least I know now it's not my rig
Yes, I think I already have visibly distance at 3, but will recheck. I don't think I have seen a sim yet without special rendering 'features'. However, IL-2 looks best to me nevertheless. Except SOW preview vids and screens maybe. :wink:
Cheers
