Hi, FlyingBoxHead

If this only happens online, then it might be malware, such as your computer being used as a robot.

This topic was moved to the PC Technical Help forum from Open Forum.

Can someone help him?

FylingBoxhead,

in your Task Manager, before this Perfomance Window you see the Process Window!
Switch to that and klick (twice) at the CPU- (what it's called in English?) next to the Username.
You will see all the processes of your CPU with the highest utilisation / workload rate (?) - mostly the system idle process with about ~99%
There you will then notice the software which creates this peak.
Do you use a Internet Security Software? It might be not a virus but the Antivirus-software itself.
Please have a look - and let me know!

Jambo

Re: Skipping.... - Jambo - 27.10.2010

Hi there and sorry for the delayed answer....

Alright! Did you see in your Task Manager which Program is jumping in the list - up and down?
As I said - normally you have a idle like around 90-99% and from time to time another task/program jumps to the top or 2nd. or 3rd. position!

Have a close look for a while! If this peak is every 3 or 5 sec. you should see the program which is causing this peak, jumping up an down in the list!
Sorry - have to ask - do I make myself understandable? My English - grammar?

Jambo

When I watch it skip it's either AVG(anti-virus) or Steam, closed steam, still does it.Don't know if I should close my virus software though.
I disconnected my internet and the skipping stopped, but my anti-virus says theres no spyware or Malware.I'm lost on this one.

FlyingBoxHead,

Always keep your anti-malware running, especially when online.

Perhaps you should get another anti-malware program to see if AVG is the problem. That is process of elimination.

This kind of thing can easily be malware hidden in your system. Skipping stopped when disconnected is suspicious.

My topic at bottom has information on how to use Task Manager to see what programs and processes are running on your computer. Resource Monitor can help.

Click path: Windows Task Manager/Performance/Resource Monitor

Also, you can use Software Explorer in Windows Defender to see what programs are running. You probably already know how to do these things.

Since I use Windows XP I have to use Process Explorer.Forgot I had it and I'm watching it closely.

Don't know of any good anti-Malware programs.AVG is just anti-Virus.

Re: Skipping.... - Jambo - 27.10.2010

Hi there,

so, I made myself understandable! 8)

I assume – and you have not to answer this question! - You do not have any software on your computer running with a hem, not official key?
You do not surf on very special - not for kits - Internet pages?

To give you a bit of a relief – I'm quite sure it is not a virus nor something similar!
It might be your AVG – do you know your software?
Your AVG might controlling the incoming and outgoing data of your Internet connection – or it is scanning your PC in the background...

I'm quite sure, it is a task of your Windows System – like a Service Program such as “svchost.exe” as an examble.

You might have a look in the Forums/Support of AVG and even Windows!
A year ago I would have the answer right away, I know that kind of problem – no better Phenomenon – and there is an answer to it..

Don't you worry to much – have a look and even right a mail at AVG and Windows.
The Support Range of Windows is huge and it might take a while to find something worse to your problem – have patience. I will have a look as well...

Ah, Stop!

There's a program of Windows called computer- “maintenance” or - “management” or “administration”
I don't know the right word / term in English – my PC is in German! There you can see all of the Services of Windows!
All these Services are either on "automatic" or "manual" or "deactivated"!

You will find there a Service called Index(service) (again I don't know the right term in English)
This Index service is normally on automatic! Change that to “deactivated” - and have a look. Maybe you have to reboot your Computer!? It won't harm your PC – and you can always switch it on – but you really don't need it! ;-)

I've got a feeling...

Re: Skipping.... - Fireskull - 27.10.2010

FBH,

I use Kaspersky anti-malware from Kaspersky Lab. Of the many programs that I have tried, both free and paid, Kaspersky detected things that none of the others had. It operates with extremely low demand on computer processing.

Well I got done running all the scans and nothing.Only 2 infected files, deleted, restarted and still skips.
I'm tellin you this started right out of the box, right after I got internet.
maybe it's my connector? It does drop connection sometimes.
I run off a LAN connection from my dad's computer.

Did you follow the rest of the steps in the tutorial?
BIOS Updates, Motherboard Updates etc.

Scanning the system is only part of the whole process.

Re: Skipping.... - FlyingBoxHead - 28.10.2010

I did everything else too.still skipps.I asked my dad again and he said it might be my internet connector. No say.
It dropps connection alot and I think the skipping is caused by my computer trying to reconnect
