Win 7 "Safe Mode" - KC Jones - 29.10.2010
I've got a new machine with Win 7 Pro and have had no problems running IL-2.
For reasons, I wanted to run it in "Safe Mode" to check on some things.
However, when I hit/tap/hold down F8 (the way I used to with XP) all's I get is a screen asking me "Which device: CDRom or my harddrive do I want to boot up with".
This doesn't seem right.
So my question is - how do I get into "Safe Mode" in Win 7 ?
Thanks
KC

Run "msconfig" from the start/run menu, click the boot tab, choose safe mode boot then click OK and restar
Or try pressing F5

Some motherboards use the F8 key to display the boot device menu
As KG64_Cnopicilin said you can set it in msconfig
Hitting F8 immediately after selecting the boot device will bring up Windows menu - but you've gotta be quick...

Hey Guys,
You're something else !
The "F5" took me to Windows Boot Manager and I could choose what operating system to boot up. Since it only showed Windows 7 that was okay.
But it said to hit F8 for further options.
Waala ! There is was - all the options about Safe Mode plus some others I didn't know about.
I have an ASUS motherboard.
I did peek at msconfig for future reference also.
I saved your instructions in case others may need help.
Much "thanks" to both of you and I owe you one (if you ever need a bomber pilot to take out a target  )
Again, my gratitude !
Take care,
KC

Glad it worked

I've got two PC's with ASUS boards in them and both of those use the F8 key to display the boot device menu. It's only been in the last two maybe three years though, before that ASUS mainboards used the Esc key - God knows why they changed it?
Apart from not being able to turn the F8 function off as mainboards go they are one of the best manufacturers
