1/48 B-17G "Back Home" - Hellcatace - 28.01.2011

My B-17 that I painted and made.
The B-17 is the chow hound.

[Prop blade got blown off Confusedhock: thats why #2 is missing a blade.

I made som of the black with a sharpie paint marker.
This is a Revel kit it came with the peple and a bomb cart [not in pics]
The rolls in front of #2 are tissue rolled up loosely and diped lighty in water and painted. Yes the nose gun is missing its gun :oops:

Wow, Looks pretty good. So how did you "Burn" the engine? As It looks like you actually burnt it :Smile)

I used a soldering iron to melt the plastic away. Truly "burning away" the plastic

Making damaged models is quite hard, nice work!

Not too bad.
Green is a little bright, but overall looks pretty good.

I used to do the same kind of thing for damage.
Something I found works really good was to use a #2 ball point wood burning tip to get bullet hits into the plastic and use a propane torch for burning.
Ball point tip on the burner makes the plastic push out from the hole just like a real hit and the torch (a pen torch, not a full size one) burns the plastic leaving scorch marks along the path of travel. The pressure from the torch keeps everything moving backward to increase the effect.
