THE 209 ...Why not? - Dietz - 23.02.2011
It is a pretty little thing, & although it does have short legs & no guns ,I'm sure a center tank & canon boots would remedy this situation...

Its a P-51 all faired out with shorter wings and tail plane and many rounded parts for racing.
Looks cool.

Duetschmark...I'm surprised at you...in reality its the World Speed Record holding ( for a long time anyway,)
Messerschmitt 209!
Of course this is a photoshopped version & maybe under all of those new pixels
is a P-51...I say this because this looks a little big for the tiny 209...

Ok I stand corected, what led me to think it was a modded P-51 is the center line wheel
Covers they look very P- 51 like and that the motor looked like a Rolls Royce, I just went
Out on the net and looked this up and sure it is a Messerschmitt Me209- V1 Reno Unlimited
And it does have a Rolls Royce motor, never seen this plane before today.

Beautiful lines- so, this is a modern, prop-driven racer?

The Me-209 was a record-setting single-engine race plane for which little or no consideration was given to adaptation for combat. The second, the Me 209-II, was a proposal for a new development from the lineage that produced the highly successful Bf 109 that served as the Luftwaffe's primary fighter throughout World War II.
Powerplant: 1× Daimler-Benz DB 601 ARJ, 1,342 kW (1,800 hp)
Maximum speed: 756 km/h (469 mph)
+1!
Re: THE 209 ...Why not? - RadPig94 - 24.02.2011
record setting for its time? because F8F Rare Bear is faster: 528 MPH, climb rate 3000 M in 90 secs

The original 209 was intended from the outset as a record breaker rather than a racer per se, the idea being a propaganda coup for Germany as the aircraft was named 109R in press releases.
As an aeroplane it was a nasty little handful. The test pilot reported a whole list of technical and handling defects.
