remapping of aircraft / new textures - why ? - sinzov - 11.04.2011
Hi,
this has propably been discussed before, but i could not find a solution - why did HSFX introduce a new mapping for some of the basic aircraft ? i turned to the "new" il2 only recently, it is really suberb - maps, effects, aircraft .... but some textures do not fit to the aircraft any more (see A6M-variants). are these new aircraft models ? were there legal restrictions not to use Oleg's mapping of the texture ?
if so: how can i use the new aircraft AND the myriads of existing textures ? which of the "stock" aircraft are involved ?
can i use HSFX without some of the new aircraft in question ? how to de-activate them ? and use the rest of the wonderful package ?
any answer is very welcome

HSFX 5.0 includes new 3D models A6M by JapanCat, because they are better than the previous.
Here you have some skins for these new models:

Hi,
thx for the link. i seem to be unable to download from gamefront: my search brings no results :-(
one question remains: is it possible to deactivate some of the new aircraft in order to use the stock ones ?
regards

No, it is not possible, these are the default planes in HSFX 5.0, in any case you can install new aircrafts.

The link to the skins is dead. Do you have another?

How is it he could change the stock A6M3? The stock A6M3 was the A6M3-32 with the square wings. Now the stock A6M3 is the A6M3-22 (rounded wing tips) in HSFX only not 4.10.
The two aircraft should have different flight characteristics involving range, turn rate, roll rate and diving speeds. Did the stock A6M3 (A6M3-32) flight model get changed and if so I thought one of the rules was not to change any stock flight models?
I don't have a problem with adding new slot A6M, but the stock planes should have been left alone.

It worked this time, thanks.

It's not possible change to the stock A6M3.
I think the flight model has been modified by HSFX team.

It's not possible change to the stock A6M3.
I think the flight model has been modified by HSFX team.
I guess I don't understand what you mean with your comments and I am not trying to be adversarial about it.
In previous versions of HSFX, UI and the Stock game when I went into the QMB or FMB and selected the A6M3, the plane form matched that of the A6M3-32 (square wing tips). With the stock IL-2 1946 4.10 version the A6M3 plane form is the same as before. Now in HSFX 5 when I go into the QMB or FMB and select the A6M3 (no asterisk) which is supposed to be the stock model the plane form is different and matches that of the A6M3-22 (rounded wing tips). So now the question is that since the plane form has been changed has the flight model been changed also or as you put it it modified from the A6M3-32 FM to that of the A6M3-22?
Is it not true that since the time of All Aircraft Arcade has it not been the rule not to change the FM of any stock aircraft?
Has this policy changed? Call it what you want, but if the HSFX team creates a hsfx.sfs file that modifies any FM files (i.e. wing tips) of a stock airplane is that not changing a stock flight model? It isn't like this is an optional mod because it is embedded in the HSFX History mod which is required to play a modified game.

Yes

Yes and No
When you enable EXPERT MODE some of Oleg's (original slot) planes flight models are changed
For example.. in EXPERT MODE the ROC of the Bf-109K4 is greatly reduced to values that are much closer to real world values
See section 7.12 EXPERT mode aircraft of my un-official HSFX How to document for a list of all the planes that Aaken made changes to

Keep in mind that changing the 3D exterior model does not affect the flight model.. I could apply the flight model of the Me262 to the B-29 and the B-29 would perform like an Me262.. Long story short how the plane looks has nothing to do with you it flys

In HSFX 5.0 the exterior art was changed in both the standard and EXPERT MODE, none of the PTO stock flight models where changed in the initial release.. But Aaken is currently working on the flight models of the PTO planes that will be released later as a patch/update

1: Why was it necessary to change the exterior art in the standard mod game? Why was this not made a stand alone mod or part of the EXPERT MODE instead of game wide?
2: Is this patch/update that your mention apply only to the Expert MODE or is it going to be forced upon us as part of the HSFX History Mod?
I read the Expert MODE explanation when I first installed HSFX 5 so I know what it does, but you know the best part of the EXPERT MODE is that it is OPTIONAL. You can choose to use it or not use it. Unlike the HSFX History Mod (with its unwanted changes and some of its mistakes) the EXPERT MODE is not required to play a modified game.

Necessary?
Well no mod is necessary, all mods are options
That the makers typically feel are better than what was provided with the stock game
The end goal being a better looking, feeling, and more accurate flight sim
The HSFX group also picks which mods to make part of the SFS file format for quicker load times and which to make optional mods via JSGME, making the 3D art an JSGME option just seemed like more trouble that it was worth especially in light of the far superior 3D art done by Cat of 242nd sqd
Granted though the old adage of
you cant please all the people all the time still applies, but for the most part most like the new 3D art

Forced?
No
As noted the EXPERT MODE is a JSGME option

Mistakes?
Interesting.. care to give an example? Or is it safe to assume that you definition of mistake means they did something that does not agree with your personal preferences
Again,
you cant please all the people all the time
But based on what I have been reading most like the changes
