Mustang Variants/A-36 Apache - Patchman123 - 24.04.2011

How about adding the A-36 Apache and Mustang I and Mustang II variants to Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 because the A-36 was a pretty good dive bomber and it was significant part of the Mustang's development.

The A-36 had dive brakes for dive bombing. It played a role in Burma and North Africa. It flew bombing missions against Pantelleria in the Mediterranean against Italian forces. It was a sort of standard dive bomber in North Africa and Burma for the USAAF, until replaced by other types.

The A-36 Apache was used for low-altitude work because its engine was unsuited for high-altitude flight because of the Allison engine.
The A-36 was effective as a dive bomber, but the problem was the liquid-cooled engine's vulnerability to ground fire. The A-36 was used in strafing roles as well. It was effective. It was armed with 4 20mm cannons.

There is a version of the Mustang1/p-51/p-51a over at SAS1946 web site, it is a midified 'b' but it looks pretty good and has a FM to suit.

Okay. Does it have dive brakes like an A-36 Apache?

The A-36 had six .50 caliber machine guns, it was the Mustang Mk.IA that had four 20mm Hispano Cannons.

Obviously NOT because it represents P-51A and Mustang I.

However A-36 variant is planned and under way (most likely the next update of the mod).

A36 originally had 4 x 20mm cannon.
They were later removed when the plane went into production as the P51 due to weight and stress on the wings.

S!

I would like to see a A-36 Apache mod too. The Mustang start its life off like the Me-262 to be used as a ground attack aircraft.
