damaged beyond repair? the plane looked fine, only damage i saw were the prop blades were bent

You have to consider what happened to cause it to have to end up in that condition. Perhaps there was damage not shown in the picture on the other side of the plane. Also internal damage not repairable with the facilities available. The required maintenance to repatir the acft might not be worth the time and effort and so the acft would be written off as damaged beyond repair.

That's right. Even a minor damage to frame or wing spars, though invisible from the outside, critically weakens the whole structure (= no longer able to sustain Gs), thus condemning the whole plane.

Bullet holes can be closed, parts repaired, whole engines replaced, but a bent frame is unrecoverable.
