Re: Thunder Ridge - Air Race Course - Serpiko - 30.06.2011

Going to try it!

I think that a serie of dedicated "racing" missions would be a nice addition to this game, to break between a dogfight and a bombing run.

If this is successful, may I suggest more courses? As in real life, different pylon colors would mean left/right turn. What about a 8-figure (maybe at night  )? Circuits could balance performances among planes by featuring different sections, requiring either pure speed or maneuverability.

Also, barrage balloons could provide either middle-altitude checkpoints or a "slalom" section among their wires.

More: maybe, dedicated races for special classes? I.E. Biplanes only, twin-engined only, bombers only (why not? ) and so on.

Then, even if playing offline, replay files would be the proof in case a new circuit record is set.

I'm just "brainstorming" a few ideas, because I think a racing "spin-off" of IL-2 has a good potential.

...?... ...Who said "canyon race"?...

Re: Thunder Ridge - Air Race Course - LeBigTed - 30.06.2011

Hi Serpiko !!!

I definitely agree with you !!! More Races would be very appreciated !!!!

I remember on AAA it was a pack called "I-16 CUP" you can find on M4T. Try this link : http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=ForumsPro&file=viewtopic&t=1215

It is a good pack with a lot of things designed for IL2 1946 (stock version). I think it would be quite hard to create waypoint for AI Planes into the races because of their difficulty. But you can easily edit the files to fly it offline with something else than an I-16 ;o)

Moreover, it works with the stock version (it was designed for Ace Expansion Pack if I have a good remember), so I think it will be easy to do a multiplayer game on a server because you don't need to have UP2, or UP3, or any HSFX, or HistoMod version to play it.

There is many races and skins into this pack ;o)

Have Fun ;o)

Re: Thunder Ridge - Air Race Course - 9/JG54_EZ - 24.07.2011

Very nicely made movie, thanks.

I remember our group made a bunch of race maps years ago, lost, but not forgotten.
Just thought I'd mention something we tried aswell. We would have a 4 lap race, the first lap was just as normal as any other race, but after you cross the first lap you can go guns hot for the remainder.. It made pole position the scariest place to be Smile Something to try. Have fun.

Several old racing maps made by Greybeast can still be found at his site.
Greybeast racing maps: http://www.umbhau.de/Jan/IL-2FB1946/index.htm
(Click on one of the pictures for a map that you like and in the bottom right hand corner of each maps download page is a link for the file. It's easy to miss if you don't know where it is located.)

Thread at UBI where I found the link to his website in his signature.
