dont blame steam for your game not loading, it could be a dozen different things.
I've run steam for more years than I can remember and never had a single problem
Re: steam - Planemad - 23.07.2011
Moved to CoD Section
Phas3e is right it could be several reasons why your copy of CoD isn't working,
Does your PC meet the requirements?
Also did it install off the disk, or did it download via steam?

So after the prepare dialog of steam the game doesn't start?
Doesn't steam have game file verification?

Yes it does 8)
Cammoammo run the File Verification, that will download any missing or corrupt files,

I know this sounds stupid but are you trying to run the game though steam or not?
Also when you first install / download a game on steam it some times at the end of this processes needs to install additional driver ect... like DirectX and this can take a little wile some times, but also I have found that some times Anti-Virus type programs stop or really slow down this processes for some reason!!! So it might be a good idea to try switching off any Anti-Virus programs for a little wile and see if that works?
Check that the game is up to date by right clicking on IL-2:CoD and click on properties at the bottom. Then click on the update tab and see if automatic updates is set to all ways keep my game up to date.
Also check nothing has got corrupted by doing the same as above to get in to properties but this time click on the local files tab and then click on verify integrity of the game cache. Then steam will check to see if any files are corrupted and redownload them if they are.
If your still having problems than the likelihood is it's not steam

If you're doing it wrong you can't blame steam for it...
98% of all things in the world work if used in the way they are supposed to.
Re: steam - Planemad - 23.07.2011
Don't download via steam, the bigger the game, the bigger the chance it'll be corrupt

For the love of...
Thats what the file verification process is for so you don't have to redownload the hole game again... like 3 other including me told you that!!!!
Right, for future reference you can reinstall a steam related game from the original CD instead of redownloading it all again.
* First you must delete the game by right clicking on the game and select delete local content.
* Then exit steam and make shore its not running at all.
* Insert the game CD into you CD rom drive
* Then press the windows key + R to open the run command window
* Now type in the run command window; "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:
(If steam is not install at that location, replace C:\Program Files\Steam with the correct location i.e. D:\Games\Steam is where I have it installed and same go for the CD Drive, replace E: with the correct location i.e. F: is the location of my CD Drive)
* Then press ok and it should sing you in and start installing the game off the CD.
I know its a pain to do it that way and I don't know why the people at Valve don't make it easier to reinstall a game from CD!!!
Also for future reference cammoammo
Steam Support is a good place to troubleshoot any problems your having with steam and most games on steam.
There are are also two official forums you can ask on if your having any problems with COD, One is
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover @ C1 Forums and the other is
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover @ UBI forums
Re: steam - Planemad - 23.07.2011
Or just stick it in the disk drive (STEAM MUST NOT BE RUNNING) and start the installation like that :OO
