Weapon Convergence - Davis0079 - 25.07.2011

I was playing with the guns and different ammo types on the 109s, when I noticed the default weapon convergence (like IL-2) is set at 100 (1000 meters). Where this may be the standard setting, Its way too far away for my taste. So I went to set all my guns at 50 (500 meters) or even better 25 (250 meters) when I noticed the game keeps resetting it back to the default setting. I can set it further away (pointless), but not closer. Has anyone had any success changing these values to a closer setting. Or is the 109s limited to having a minimum convergence of 1000 meters??????

On a side note. I have experimented with the 109 startups and have gotten to where I can get things rolling without destroying the engine, but without a comprehencive startup proccess on paper, I'm really just winging it. now to the question. "Has anyone found or made a startup guide for the aircraft in CoD yet??"

My startup is as follows so far.
fuel cock set to on
magnetos set to 1+2
open water and oil radiators
set prop pitch to 100
pump fuel pump handle 3 to 4 times
hit ignition

this has worked for me so far, but I noticed on the spits and hurricanes this isnot the way to do it. Any information on the 109, spits, or hurricane startups would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I think this game is great, and having played IL-2 since 4.07, I think I have a pretty good idea of what great is. I have no major complaints or problems so far. I run pretty smooth given the current patch. I only wish for the community to start making campains and more flyable aircraft, but this early in the game I dont think I can be too pushy about this just yet.

Hi Davis0079,

you may have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=99&t=32556

Thz for the reply Jambo
I did see that post earlier when I was searching the forums for some answers. While very infomitive, it didnt answer all my questions. Certainly a step in the right direction though.

Perhaps by unchecking Cloud in Steam settings your own gun settings will hold...let me know if it works !? I'm trying to figure out how to set guns myself & have no clue what to do about differnt convergencies - all I want the guns to do is meet out at about 200 meters - Like I have in Il-2...

Re: Weapon Convergence - Davis0079 - 29.07.2011

There is no problem with my Steam, I'm not sure how so many of you guys have had so many problems...just a problem trying to teach old dogs new tricks i guess....I've had Steam for years and own 40+ games through it...I'm a fan of Valve and have never had any real complaint with any of their games or software

Anyways...back to the topic...Yes I have played with it alot and I do have some answers....The setting is in meters...not as I originaly thought, kilometers, as in IL-2. I was looking at the convergence distance ingame with the F2 view to confirm this.

100 meters is the lowest distance that can be set in the 109-e3 on my pc...which is just fine for me...I have since then set the horizontal and vertical setting to 200m....there may be something to the new vertical convergence setting that can help ppl dial in there shots...but for now I just set it the same as the horizontal setting. For my shot style I like this distance because it is only still the width of my guns past the convergence point on the spread side at 400m, making anytime from 300 down to 100 meters to target, a good time to shoot.

I also change my ammo settings...this, like convergence, is a very personal setting....Unless your just stupid about it...there is no wrong answer. I have set mine up for my two MGs to feed AP(armor piercing),HE(high explosive),AP,HE,tracer..And my cannons to be the same rotation, but Incernerating AP and HE, then a tracer.(

Re: Weapon Convergence - Davis0079 - 28.08.2011

I've gaterered alittle more info on the gun setup ingame.

first....vertical convergence...at first I set this to the same distance as my horizontal convergence, but noticed it was hard to get good kills, I've read many complaints about the game not having over dramatic kills like IL-2, and thought this was the problem, or maybe I'm just a really bad shot, or something. then I changed my vertical convergence out to 600m and started cracking everything I shot at. I guess this is the balistic drop of the bullet compaired to the ceterline of the plane??...or the boresight compaired to the gunsight??..I dont know, but being set at 200m made it not very good. Try 500m-1000m and see if you get more black smoke from engines at 300m+, and more total destruction at 150 meters and less.

I've been flying the 109 more then anything else, which is a little bit different of a ball game then the allied stuff when it comes to guns. I've set my two MGs to 300m horizontal convergence (at 600m vert). since these guns are mounted pretty much side by side and inline with the gunsight itself...there is not big change in the way they handle. these guns are not to be overlooked, dont get me wrong, cannons are great, but your MGs can cut a plane in half given enough of a burst, and ontop of that, you have ammo for days with them. I've set my cannons at 150m horizontal (600m vert) and save my shots for the final moments of a pass on a bomber, or after you knock the agility out of a fighter with your MGs and only use them close up. this is where you start knocking big pieces of plane out of the sky.

more on 6 and 8 gun setups later
