maybe, as WW1 airplanes are relatively simpler to fly than WW2, there could be an option to be able to use the mouse as a joystick eg:
movement of the mouse= aircraft moving,
left button= fire,
right button+movement of the mouse= camera,
Mouse wheel=throttle,
right button+ Mouse wheel=zoom, etc

and maybe other options for people with lateral buttons on their mouses

Of course this idea if passed into game could be switchable, not everyone will want to play this way.

If you really wanted to you could assign them movements to your mouse with button and joystick settings menus that are already in game.
